You know, it's a shame De Sade didn't work out on me - most of theory class today revolved around leather-wearing gay bikers and butch bull-dykes, so it would have really been appropriate to wear, even though I'm like the farthest thing from butch EVAR.

I actually do enjoy gender studies - it and feminism are the two theories so far that don't make me want to cut myself. However, it totally makes me want to analyze the crossdressing and gender play in shoujo manga on an academic level, which would be cool but AUGH SOME THINGS I DON'T WANNA ANALYZE.

...and okay, why in the hell did I decide to write my NaNo novel about seventh-graders? I mean, sure, I was a seventh-grader once myself, but that was a considerable while ago, and I don't know the first thing about how seventh-graders talk now. So writing them to sound convincing is kinda making me want to tear my hair out. Maybe I should move them up to high school early. >_<

I think people whine less about finding the gay in that than, say, in Othello. XD

(BUT IT'S SO TOTALLY THERE AND SO COMPLETELY OBVIOUS HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT SEE IT)
From: [identity profile] jantalaimon.livejournal.com
some people wouldn't see/admit to TEH GHEI if it bit them in the...no, wait. some people wouldn't see/admit to the ghei if it smacked them in the...no, wait, that's not right either.

aha!

remember, some people took Starship Troopers seriously. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

there's not a whole lot you can do about some people, except keep talking + hoping maybe one day something might get through.

well, that and the beatings, but we don't like to talk about those in public...XD

I just don't understand how people could miss it. In something like Othello, for example, THE MEN ACTUALLY HAVE A MOCK MARRIAGE CEREMONY COMPLETE WITH RING. How much more obvious can you get? XDDDDD
From: [identity profile] jantalaimon.livejournal.com
oh, that. they're just playing, you know. they're so comfortable with the fact of their non-gheiness they...

...nope, you're right, i have no idea how people miss that, either.

in high sk00l, we had to watch the version of Othello with Larry Laurence Fishburne. IIRC, that was in there. still, it was a topic never discussed in my AP english class. then again, it was a very religious school. i still find it hard to believe no one noticed, though. :P
