gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (Gay in green)
Well, today is the much-vaunted LJ Strike of Doom. The fact that I'm posting probably tells you what I think of it.

In other news, today is apparently not only Good Friday but also Purim! Purim was one of my favorite holidays as a kid; basically celebrating it involves using groggers (noisemakers), eating pastries shaped like hats, and watching a Rocky Horror-style reconstruction of the Ahasuerus/Esther story. (Seeing Rabbi Zedek in drag, on rollerskates, was possibly simultaneously one of the awesomest and one of the scariest things I've ever seen. And we're not talking "old lady" drag, we're talking "dressed like Daisy Duke" drag.) It's WAY more fun than Good Friday. XD

Other news:
- I've trying to teach myself Flash animation;
- I just set up a WordPress blog on my website where I will probably review any/everything I decide to review (but don't worry, I'll still have links to it here on LJ; it'll probably also mirror all my [livejournal.com profile] baketothefuture posts);
- and I'm currently reading volume 2 of Sex Love Pistols, which I got from Prairie Lights not too long ago.

There's always something unsettling about buying shrinkwrapped gay mpreg manga from Prairie Lights; the cashiers always look at me funny. D:

Now I think I'm going to play some more SSBB. :D

I OBEY MY DALEK OVERLORDS

(If you're planning on doing this meme, make your own list before you click on the cut and get spoiled for the questions.)

Questions and answers )
gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (I'm no artist)
...This song is kind of hilariously bad. And not a single "EX-TER-MI-NATE," wtf. (Instead it's all "I-WISH-TO-BE-YOUR-FRIEND," or "I-LOVE-YOU," which is just NO.)

A meme from like half my flist:

Choose a character from a fandom that I know--video game, anime, manga, book--anything. I'll answer the questions below. Post this in your LJ if you you want to do it too and I'll meme you back.

1) What is your opinion of this character? If you like, explain why you like him/her. Likewise if you dislike the character.

2) Is he/she important to the general plot?

3) Can you relate to this character at all? Do they grip you emotionally?

4) How much do you like the fandom that this character comes from?

5) Do you ship this character with any other character? Or, are you particularly intrigued by their relationship with any other character(s)? (romance-wise or platonic)

6) Is there anything about the character you would change? (Personality wise, not anything pertaining to the plot.)

7) If you were in the fandom with this character, how do you see yourself interacting with him/her? (Would you get along well? Fall in love with? Dislike? Friendly rivalry? etc etc)

8) Does this character make the cut as one of your all time favorites (if you like) or most hated?

9) Would you hype up this character (if you like) or warn about (if you dislike) to someone whose new to the fandom?

10) Is this character popular with the fanbase?

...In other news, I hand-calligraphed a few Christmas cards this year. Specifically, I sent them to those of you to whom I've promised calligraphy pieces and haven't gotten around to; I'll send y'all a real, more customized thing, as originally intended, but in the meantime you get a calligraphy bonus! (Some of which are better than others, but y'know, the ones that were TOO sucky I just didn't send, lol.)

Also, I'm working on a "cracked-out yaoi manga" post that's about halfway done, which hopefully will get posted soon (I've only been meaning to finish it for like a month and a half, argh). So look for that sometime soon!
gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (It's time for sweets!)
Wow, today I got absolutely nothing done. (Aside from a mild bit of cleaning.) I did, however, eat a crapload of junk food. I had snacks left over from [livejournal.com profile] iowayehudit's party last night, plus some others I'd bought, so I ended up eating a third of a box of Cheez-Its, several handfuls of Doritos and over a pound of Twizzlers this morning. HOLY GOD I'M OUT OF CONTROL. D:

Anyway, I DID manage to watch the new episode of Ouran High School Host Club, as well as giving Gakuen Heaven a try. And had retarded chats with [livejournal.com profile] enkiae and [livejournal.com profile] bemysty on IRC about them. XD

madness lies within )

Then this evening I went over to [livejournal.com profile] lordtravis and [livejournal.com profile] teachingmusic's to watch Outland, a cheesy '80s sci-fi movie loosely based on High Noon, with Sean Connery and lots of exploding heads due to depressurization. It was not half bad, surprisingly (given Connery's track record with sci-fi *cough*Zardoz*cough*)!

Afterwards Jess was having a craving for cake, so we all piled in and went to DQ to pick up an ice cream cake. Then we came back and ate some while watching Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, which was on TV and was kind of awesomely funny and is worth watching if for nothing else than Neil Patrick Harris (a.k.a. Doogie Howser) snorting coke off an anonymous hoochie's ass while standing up in a moving (stolen) car - while playing himself. XD

After that, though, both Jess and I were craving greasy burgers (damn the prominent White Castle product placement!) and so we dragged Travis off on ANOTHER food run, this time to Steak'n'Shake. (Mmm, burgers.) Then he and I dropped Jess off and Travis brought me home, where I sent him back with my PS2 and some games to borrow (since I'm gonna be gone for three weeks, SOMEONE might as well be enjoying them till I get back!).

Let's Positive Linking!
- Yaoi manga have gotten very cracktastic. This is from Sakurai Shushushu's Vibrator Company, a heartwarming story of the gay love between two vibrator salesmen, currently being posted on [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_daily. How can you not love a manga with this kind of crack?
- And another awesome parody trailer, this time for Titanic 2: Jack's Back (sadly, not as a zombie). This amused me far more than it should have, probably because I'm sleepy.
- Best quiz EVER. (From [livejournal.com profile] rathershady.) Seriously, it's quite accurate. XD
- On eBay, a very pretty antique bed set that happens to be the one Lee Harvey Oswald was conceived on. Seriously, I'd totally buy it if I had the money, it's very pretty!
- Kit-Kat + Ringu = DELISHUS, apparently. (From [livejournal.com profile] enkiae.) Of course, the Skittles video game came long before. XD

...I leave for Kansas City tomorrow (well, today now) afternoon. So I'll be in KC in less than 24 hours.

Memories

gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (OMG ANGST)
For some reason, I keep listening to this song over and over. You wouldn't think the ending song from an anime about gay shota incest (Papa to Kiss in the Dark) would be so cheerful, but then you'd be wrong! :D

Also, earlier this morning the GetBackers opening theme song ("Love That Never Wavers") came on as I was having an IM conversation with my friend Colin from England, and I suddenly had this visceral sensory memory of sitting in my room in Middle Mill, watching GB fansubs on my laptop in the middle of the day with the sun shining in through the curtains. That, of course, led to a cascade of more of the same type of sensory memories - sitting on a picnic blanket in Fairfield Park with Min-Hee, going to the Odeon with Col and Min, shopping at the Borders with the 300-year-old staircase, etc. - and nostalgia suddenly gripped my gut like a vise grip. It has yet to let go.

...When I met with the DGS yesterday, she said I should look at doing research abroad (i.e., England, given my specialty/ies) during the summers, and I think I may do that next summer. It's been far too long since I've been to England.

Let's Positive Linking!
- Best IMDB entry EVAR.
- Man files complaint against Easter Bunny. That damn evil bunny, when will he be stopped?
- Dog-Gone gas neutralizing thong. (All from [livejournal.com profile] surlykitty.) But how will people blame it on the dog now?
gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (I'm no artist)
Today it literally took me about two minutes to do the People crossword. Seriously, SO EASY.

Also, in breaking news, I HATE BIRDS. I went downtown to pick up some bubble mailers (to send BPAL) and pop, and halfway home a bird crapped on my head. And I'd just taken a shower, too, which meant I had to wash my hair twice in two hours which I'm fairly certain means I will have split ends all to hell tomorrow.

I also drew a picture during my breaks from reading Aurora Leigh. If you're in the mood for some Persona fanart, look no further. (For once it doesn't look like ass!)

...Those of you who remember What is Silent Hill? (that I posted earlier) may enjoy this (for SH fans) and this (for JoJo fans).

And finally, something that managed to traumatize even me: a horrific Harry Potter slash fancomic (NOT WORKSAFE - from [livejournal.com profile] jokersama, who else?), featuring crossdressing!Harry, crossdressing!Snape, and voyeur!Lupin, AUGH.
gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (Distinctly suspicious)
Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] shinkun! May you never be eaten by demons!

I have a rant about [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_daily. (Which I suppose extends to yaoi fandoms in general, and isn't really anything new, but still bugs me.)

Bashing women in yaoi )

Anyway, more BPAL reviews! :D

BPAL: Jolly Roger )

- Encyclopedia Dramatica. TNT LJ: WE KNOW DRAMA.
- IT company bans complaining. (From [livejournal.com profile] surlykitty.) I can't imagine that helps morale. XD
- Family loses home to Katrina, then son killed in Iraq. The mother's STILL waiting on a FEMA trailer, so she's understandably kinda pissed. :(
- K-Fed begins rap "career". Because apparently it's not fulfilling enough for Mr. Britney Spears to spend all his wife's money on PIMP tracksuits for their wedding and on crappy-looking manpris.
- Meet ELIZA. No, not Dushku, sadly; the computer Rogerian therapist from several decades back, that apparently fooled some people into thinking it was a real person. It's been replicated as a Java applet. Ask it about sexual deviancy for extra fun! :D
