Man, but I can't wait till finals are over

Well, this afternoon has been delightful. My power decided to go out - while I was in the middle of doing research on my computer, no less - for no apparent reason. (I don't think that many people have their A/C on yet, so it shouldn't be putting a strain on the energy network yet.) In defiance of the power outage, I packed up my stuff and came to the library (which I was planning to do anyway, actually) to continue my research, and now I'm in my office still working on it.

I just hope they get the power back on by the time I go home; I have a feeling they will, though, since the power crews seem pretty quick to respond here in the IC. And I suppose I am closer to the library, which makes things easy. Still, grump.

I'm also frustrated by the fact that I pretty much know what I want to do my medieval seminar paper on, and I even know the kind of theory I want to use, and I know it's out there, but I can't seem to find it for the life of me. ( Cut for more detail, including theoretical ramblings that a lot of my LJ friends will find mystifying and/or boring )

On the plus side, I now know exactly what I'm going to write my Beowulf paper about after a brainstorm this morning, so that makes me feel much better. I might even get it done, or mostly done, in time for the first "soft" deadline of Tuesday. That would make me happy.

WTF

Man, I just heard about the Ward Parkway shootings from peskyelf's LJ (her mom was in the Target at the time). I've checked in with my parents, and they're okay. (They would have been at the mall walking at the time except that a friend of theirs had just told them about a CD he'd done, which they immediately went out to buy on Southwest Boulevard, so by the time they got there it was all over and shut down.) Are all my other KC peeps okay?
