Well, this afternoon has been delightful. My power decided to go out - while I was in the middle of doing research on my computer, no less - for no apparent reason. (I don't think that many people have their A/C on yet, so it shouldn't be putting a strain on the energy network yet.) In defiance of the power outage, I packed up my stuff and came to the library (which I was planning to do anyway, actually) to continue my research, and now I'm in my office still working on it.

I just hope they get the power back on by the time I go home; I have a feeling they will, though, since the power crews seem pretty quick to respond here in the IC. And I suppose I am closer to the library, which makes things easy. Still, grump.

I'm also frustrated by the fact that I pretty much know what I want to do my medieval seminar paper on, and I even know the kind of theory I want to use, and I know it's out there, but I can't seem to find it for the life of me. Basically, I'm writing on the use of height and elevation and depth in the Pearl-Poet's Cleanness, but there hasn't been much theory written on vertical space that I can find (since most of the focus to date has been on horizontal space). So I wanna extrapolate from the rhetorics of vertical motion to static vertical space (since Cleanness deals with both), but I can't find anything on the rhetorics of vertical motion either. D:

My next step is to look at social motion, but I'm not sure I'll end up with anything better...hopefully my professor will be able to recommend me someplace to start looking, at the very least.

On the plus side, I think this might actually be really interesting, since it does seem like the field is wide open, and since I will to a certain extent be making up my own theory for this, it could be publishable and slightly groundbreaking maybe (assuming it doesn't turn out sucky, which is a pretty big assumption where I'm concerned).

On the plus side, I now know exactly what I'm going to write my Beowulf paper about after a brainstorm this morning, so that makes me feel much better. I might even get it done, or mostly done, in time for the first "soft" deadline of Tuesday. That would make me happy.

Good job getting your paper-topics down! I have a Marxism paper due in a week and I have no idea what I am going to write on (and I kind of also have a short paper due tomorrow that is in a similar place).

That seminar paper sounds really interesting. If you end up staying on that topic I would love to read it once its finished. Good luck finding some research :)

Well, I've had my paper topic for like three weeks actually; I just haven't had any idea of how I would go about writing it until this week (mostly 'cause I haven't had much time to think about it with all my other stuff I've had going on).

Hope you're able to come up with a good topic for your big Marxism paper! (Funnily enough, it's looking like my paper is going in a slightly Marxist direction, as it happens. Maybe my theorizing will intersect with yours! XD)

Why do you both still have major papers to write? I've been sitting pretty for a while now... :P -jmw

Well, UI goes a week later than the UM system (we started a week later too), so our last day of classes isn't until this Friday. So basically that, combined with the fact that my seminar paper isn't hard-and-fast due until the end of finals week (so next Friday), is why I'm gonna be going so late. D:

I also have a final exam next week, bleah
