...I don't understand. I just spent three hours this morning checking my LJ and getting up to date, and by now there've been three whole more pages' worth of entries. *weeps*

Well, the heat finally broke yesterday. It was a beautiful, gray, drizzly cool day. Today was sunny, but still nice and temperate. Of course, it started getting hot again this afternoon, and I guess within the next day or two the mercury's gonna be jumping again. DAMMIT.

Today my mom heard from her best friend Carolynn (she's the one who gave us a whole bunch of really nice scarves to sell for V-Day). It turns out that today she was diagnosed with colon cancer. It seems to be somewhat advanced, too (though they think not metastasized yet). She's going in for surgery on the 2nd, and is understandably kind of down, so my mom spent an hour on the phone with her cheering her up (my mom, like me, is a great believer in the power of "Let's Positive Thinking!") and we're getting together with her later this week to do something fun to take her mind off it.

In fact, it's a remarkably medical couple of days - I had my last gastroenterologist appointment before Iowa today, and tomorrow my stepdad is going in for a surgical procedure to stretch out his esophagus (the muscle has kind of formed hard rings in it) to keep him from choking every other time he sits down to eat. (That's going to be a fun way to spend my birthday.)

...yes, my birthday (22) is tomorrow. It's kind of funny - I've noticed over the past couple of years, I've gone from being "OMG EVERYBODY MY BIRTHDAY IS COMING UP LOOK LOOK LOOK!!!1!" to "oh, is my birthday on Thursday? I'd forgotten about it until you reminded me." XD
