I'm currently playing reading the Umineko no Naku Koro ni visual novel, which is actually pretty awesome so far - except I really like a lot of the characters, especially Battler, Jessica and George, and I'm worrying because it's becoming pretty clear that, in true When They Cry fashion, the story is heading towards grisly end(s) for most of the characters. D: D: D:

For some reason I've really been into visual novels lately - I've played through Katawa Shoujo a few times, which is surprisingly sweet and sensitive for something engendered in the hellish pit that is 4chan, and am hoping to work my way through Fate/stay night once I finish Umineko. And I want to get the official release of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni once I finish those, because I really liked the anime and want to play the games that inspired it. (Even if the artist for both Higurashi and Umineko can't draw hands to save his life.)

Edit: Also, forgot to mention this before, but enkiae, you seriously need to play this; it's like Higurashi but with the killer-loli and scheming-frosty-ojousama ratio reversed! (And one of the two lolis has an encyclopedic knowledge of Western black magic, so...)

Well, admittedly I may have procured it through questionable legal methods, but once they do an English-language release (as they did with Higurashi), I think I'll definitely pick it up. (And of course I'm gonna buy the licensed release of Higurashi, albeit probably once my student loans come in.)

And THEY ARE ADORABLE! Well, except for Maria, who really does seem borderline retarded and hella creepy. But even she has her moments.

Loooool XD I see, I see. Well, I can't say anything about that cuz I am still looking for the questionable legal methods to feed my need for Umineko.

Maria definitely has her moments; just wait till the fourth novel. But god the kids are SO CUTE. Why is Battler just a huge ball of adorable dorkiness? Plus I also really like Shannon, for some odd reason.

I also like Shannon more than I expected to! I saw her portrait and figured her for a typical moe meido-type, and that's not entirely wrong, but there is more to her than that. Her confrontations with Beatrice in episode 2 were I think what tipped me over the edge; she was really the only person who really stood up to Beato and didn't give in at all, which was kinda badass.

Also Battler is AWESOME in a completely dorky way. TV Tropes mentioned that he's like a cross between Adell from Disgaea 2 and Phoenix Wright, and I think that's actually surprisingly accurate. XD

Shannon's resolve and her personality are really what mark her as an awesome character for me (and also mark Umineko as a better-written series than Higurashi *dodges dishes*). She's got a really strong idea of what she wants but is also...well, moe meido enough that she's still soft? All in all, she's a well-rounded character.

Battler is just LOL to me. Him and his trademark lines really have a feel of "OBJECTION" to them, and god he's so damn cute and total determinator to the max. I don't think anyone can maintain that sort of composure and optimism whilst being put through the emotion/physical wringer like he is.
