:D :D :D

In other Who news, a (reconstructed) AIM conversation between me and [livejournal.com profile] jokersama (aka Puu):

(when discussing River Song and the subject of the Doctor's real name)
Me: So apparently some official novel gave the Doctor's name as an unpronounceable 18-syllable mishmash that happens to contain part of the actor's name. Hmmmm. In other news, I'm now going to go by Yosidiamondheartdracofirelunabarbecue.
Puu: C'mon, his name should totally be something Welsh. With lots of Y's.
Me: Haha, yeah.
Puu: What would his name be?
Me: Haha, his name should be Myfanwy, like the Torchwood pterodactyl...clearly Jack named it after the Doctor, natch.
Puu: YES. So his name is Myfanwy...Miffy for short. :D

So now neither [livejournal.com profile] jokersama nor I can think of the Eleventh Doctor as anything but Miffy.

Now time for a review of the latest episode...spoilers ahoy, natch.

I found it the best of the season so far, especially after last week's uneven but enjoyable (and merchandise-driven) Dalek episode. I loved Amy twitting Miffy the Doctor about River, and her handling of the Angel image. I also liked River a lot more than I did in the Library two-parter last season...she seemed less smug, and of course I'm also a fan of the Doctor's companions (past, present and future) getting together to gossip about him and make him feel insecure. XD

I'm not entirely sure I like the revamping of the Weeping Angels as a mass force, though. Wasn't part of the whole point of them that they were solitary? (I thought that's why they were "weeping" - because they were forced to be alone and not look at each other.) And don't get me wrong, I thought the labyrinth of creepy statues that turn out to be Angels was great, but...aren't the Weeping Angels all looking at each other in this episode all the time? Since that was the ONE THING we knew about the Weeping Angels - that they can't look at each other or they'll be stuck as stone forever - having a bunch of them looking all willy-nilly and higgledy-piggledy with their eyes open just seems like a bit of a plot hole. Still, maybe Moffat will explain this anomaly in the second part?

Anyway, I certainly look forward to the second half of this two-parter, and I'm greatly enjoying both Miffy the new Doctor and Amy. Lots of fun!

I hate you for that gif.

But I love you for more reasons than I hate you, so you're safe. THIS TIME.

...and by kyaa kyaaa I mean he sounds like he should be a magical girl. Or possible a magical girl's cute mascot pet.
