gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (Gay in green)

Well, thanks to the pimping of various people on IRC, I've been reading JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. >_<

First off, it's very...well...gay. There's simply no other way to categorize a series featuring muscular, tightly-dressed men with questionable friendships making flamboyant poses at each other. XD

Second, the rock and roll puns are out of control. Jonathan's best friend/groupie is named Robert E.O. Speedwagon, his mentor is Zeppeli (presumably his first name is Led?), who learned his own MAD SKILLZ from Tom Petty and his disciples Dire and Straits. The villains of arc 2, ancient proto-vampire-thingamabobs, are named Santana, Wham, AC/DC, and Cars. In order to defeat them, Jonathan's son Joseph goes to train with Lisa Lisa and her servants Messina, Loggins and Suzy Q. And I hear they just get worse. XD

However, I've got to admit I do like its distinctive brand of Special. And I've only got like 60 volumes to go! XD

Anyway, I think I may be coming down with something. I've been feeling achey and exhausted for the past week or so, and have been in a total fugue state - for example, Thursday I was getting ready to leave the house, thought, "oh, it's cold, I'd better put on a coat," and then realized, "oh, I'd better put on some pants, too."

Also my gut seems to be trying to devour itself. Ugh, there are some days I could totally live without a digestive system.

I'm really starting to hate my seminar class. And the weird thing is, I shouldn't - I'm interested in the subject, the readings are interesting, I like the teacher (who's the nicest person EVAR - seriously, I'm doing a presentation on Janet Hamilton later in the month, and so she lent me an 1885 first edition of Hamilton's poems to help with the research!), I like my classmates...there's no real reason I should dislike this class except that I feel dismally stupid in it. For example, we've had to take turns coming up with discussion questions for part of Aurora Leigh, and Wednesday was my turn...only every question I came up with got shot down by the rest of the class. They weren't being mean or anything, they were just like, "well, I don't really see that, because of this" and then I'd be like, "oh, I hadn't seen it like that but that's a good point and makes way more sense than my interpretation of that. And, er, that also happens to completely invalidate my point. Crap." So basically I never say anything in that class that isn't a) obvious, b) irrelevant, c) moronic, or d) some new and exciting combination of the above!

Oh well, at least I'm mostly enjoying my other classes.

Let's Positive Linking!
- A sequel to The Dark Crystal? That could be either really good or really bad. :/
- MOST ROMANTIC VALENTINE'S DAY EVAR. From someone on the flist, I don't remember who. ([livejournal.com profile] eikitty, maybe?)
- Crack crack crack the egg into the bowl. Butter butter butter joins the bowl! ...Now I want to bake me a cake. D:
- Tilt-shift photography is the coolest thing ever. Those are all full-size things in those pictures, by the way. (From [livejournal.com profile] rathershady.)
- Bollywood remakes Fight Club. With musical sequences, natch! (From [livejournal.com profile] satsu.)

Wow, how do they do that tilt shift photography stuff O_O. Something about depth perception and the ratio of heights? Freaky.

Part of it seems to be the way the lens focuses...the way it's hyper-focused in the middle and fuzzy near the edges makes it seem miniature, so I think that might be part of it. Apparently it requires some pretty specialized equipment though.

I was amused by how much a lot of the city bits resembled something out of SimCity, though. XD

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure was one of my favorite fighting games on Dreamcast. Playing as the boston terrier and the bird were sweet.

See, I'm only beginning arc 3 (I'm on volume 13 now, which tells you how much JoJo I've been reading over this weekend), so I'm finally just now getting into the part covered by the OVAs/videogames. (Which is apparently the source of the infamous steamroller "WRYYYYYYY" scene.)

...I realized that I totally need a "wryyyyyyy" icon now. Preferably with steamroller. XD

If you are getting sick Joseph make sure to take plenty of vitamin C and Zinc. Also you could look into some Zicam (I know some people that swear by it).

The only thing that would make your valentine's better is Law and Order SVU valentines!

And here is a way to do tilt-shift photography without dropping $1000 for a lens. Of course it calls for a digital SLR camera, so you would need to have spent $800 already anyway.

If anyone can relate to feeling like a drooling moron on class it's me. Everyday I sit in class, ready to open my mouth, and much of the time an inexplicable fear of saying something stupid holds me back. And when I do open my mouth I would say that about 90% of the comments I make, in retrospect, are...well...retarded. I do, however, realize that I am my own worst critic and that the rest of the class is paying no more mind to whether or not my comments are moronic than I am to theirs. You're a smart guy, don't worry about it.

Take solace in the idea that most of us feel stupid on a daily basis at this point in our graduate school life.

Although there are a few people too smart for their own good that I'd like to tackle in the hallway...

That does make me feel better! I don't think you sound stupid in class, so maybe people don't think I sound stupid in class either. Which is comforting to think. (I also think part of it is that I'm technically a Victorianist, so feeling completely out of my depth in the seminar in my own specialty area gives me the wiggins, with extra wig.

...Sometimes I wonder why we do this grad school thing to ourselves. Seriously, we must all be masochists who truly thrive on pain, all-nighters and low self-esteem.

And I know what you mean about certain people. I love them to death, but I'm so jealous that they can ramble on for like ten minutes on any random subject and sound intelligent and well-thought-out about it. >_<

Joseph, Joseph, Joseph...

Why did you not tell me you were a BPAL addict? I could have been swapping with you! (Although, I've been abstaining from BPAL purchases for awhile now because I am so poor.)

Also, yay Buffy!

It's Sarah! (By process of elimination, I have figured out the identity you so skillfully concealed!) *friends*

Haha, I didn't realize you were a fellow BPAL h0...I've only been into it since partway through last semester, but I already have a horrific amount. And we SHOULD swap. :D

...Just remember, Joss Whedon is our master now!

I've got a full to top of label imp of Jukejoint. Interested or have you already tried it out?

You're inspiring me to go through my imp box. I've got way too many of those little guys floating around. :o)

I haven't tried it out yet, actually. So yes, I'd be interested. :D

What kind of scents do you like? Because I'm fairly certain I've probably got some imps that you'll like. :D

I'll bring it on Tuesday, then. :o)

I love Alice and don't have a bottle of it, so I'm always interested in more that. I also would like to try out any of the newer catalogue scents.

I usually like the sweeter scents. Roses are good!

List a few that you want to get rid of and I'll check my imp box.

Okay, here's the current contents of my "imps that just didn't do it for me" box:

Blood Countess
Centzon Totochtin
Cordelia
Endymion
The Hesperides
Iago
Kali
Lear
Mata Hari
Nyarlathotep
Strawberry Moon
Sudha Segara
Tezcatlipoca
Xiuhtecuhtli
Zephyr

...yes, I have even more that I'm keeping.

I also have bottles of Annabel Lee and The Sleeper if you haven't already tried those. In addition, I have a mini-drawerful of imps that I still need to test. x_x

...it's not an addiction, honest! I can quit anytime I want!

I'd love to try Strawberry Moon or Kali. (I know SM is an LE, so I understand if you don't want to trade a catalogue imp.)

I'll go through mine this weekend and I'm sure I'll have some more to trade in the near future. I'd love to just have a sniff of Annabel Lee and The Sleeper. :o)

BPAL = Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab (http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com). It's like a perfume subculture or something along those lines. A good primer for info about it is here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/sophia_helix/366892.html).

This is totally unrelated, but we've been meaning to tell you for awhile. We found your Blockbuster card and frequent buyer card for a soap store in the floor board of Vinnie's car. We are guessing it is the bloody remnants of your wallet exploding. If you want to email one of us your address in Iowa, we will totally stick them in an envelope and mail them to you.

We just found them last week, I think this just proves that Vinnie's car is WAY TOO MESSY!

Ha ha, that probably is indeed the cause. I thought I'd got all the stuff up, but I guess not. D:

And sure, I'll e-mail you my address. Don't feel like it's a hurry or anything, though - I can certainly go through to Spring Break, or even summer, without using them.
