The Suikoden V trailer...there are no words. WANT SO BAD

Seriously, between the fact that they play Jowy's Theme from Suikoden II in the trailer, the return of characters like Georg Prime and possibly Lorelei, not to mention maybe characters from Suikoden IV/Rhapsodia as well), characters that seem likable, and lots of angst and costume changes (the hero dresses like McDohl at one point), and this game is a must-get for me. (Like every other Suikoden game...damn you, Konami, for making such great games!)

Anyways, I've been playing more Radiata Stories as well. The big break in the game came up - at a certain point in the game you have to choose between two paths, the human and the nonhuman. But see, whichever side you choose, the characters on the other side will become enemies. If you choose the nonhuman side, all human friends leave your party and you may even have to fight them as random encounters near the human cities and towns. On the other hand, if you choose the human side, all the nonhuman allies you've recruited up till then leave instead, and the same goes for them. In addition, Ridley and Ganz join the nonhuman side, so you end up fighting against them as well.

Which side did I choose? Well, I was originally planning on doing the nonhuman side, because I like Ridley and it's pretty clearly positioned as the "good" side up until the split. But, you see, I screwed up recruitment. Jarvis (Jack's former sergeant) and Giske (the bar owner) are both recruitable, but only one per game. I recruited Jarvis. But see, I should have recruited Giske, because Jarvis is necessary in the human path to get who is probably the best or second-best character in the game, Elwen (the head of Theater Vancoor). So that means if I want to collect 'em all (which I do!) and if I want to do it in two playthroughs (which I do - there's no way I'll have time to play through this game THREE TIMES, having clocked like 40 hours before the split), I have to do the human path first and the nonhuman path second. And then, there's also the fact that though there are some nonhuman characters I like, most of my favorites are human (which makes sense, because the character list is like 2/3 human). So I chose the human path.

...bye-bye, Ridley. ;_;

Anyway, I agonized over this decision, and at first I regretted making it because Jack was acting much more stupid and much less likable at the beginning of the human path. But after a couple of scenes, he ironed out and got likable again, and the nonhuman path is shown as having its own problems as well, so it's not as cut-and-dried as it first appeared, which I liked. (I'm a fan of moral complexity.) And while I'm kinda regretting having to fight Ridley and Ganz (especially since I just noticed that the latter's Claude jacket has "Super Ocean" written in the Star Ocean 2 logo font on the back XD), I AM okay with getting all the coolie human characters. :D

Anyway, I suppose I'd better get back to multitasking on my homework. (I'm currently trying to play Radiata Stories while reading Chaucer's "The Miller's Tale"...IN MIDDLE ENGLISH. Actually, it's working out better than I thought it would. XD)

...So I guess having a save right before the split to hang onto for your 2nd playthrough is out of the question? Since it sounds as if you want to do it all the way to recruit differently.

Yeah, because then you never get a full party book...you need to do it through the New Game+ feature. x_x
