Well, I've been playing more Radiata Stories. (Reading for class? What reading?) Still enjoying it immensely - I've recruited about fifteen of the 177 (!) possible playable characters. I never thought I'd see a game that beat the Suikoden series for number of characters, but sure enough here it is. XD

Anyway, in the social arena, Thursday night a whole bunch of us first-year grad students went to dinner and a movie together. We ate at Thai Flavors (which is where the department took us when I visited in April) - I wanted chicken satay, but they were all out so I figured I'd try tofu satay, since I'd never had tofu before. Blech. I took like two bites, chewed, and took a pass on the rest. Even the peanut sauce couldn't save it. (Methinks tofu is not for me.)

Then we went to see The Constant Gardener, with Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz. It was really good, though a massive downer - though I'm glad I saw it, it's not the sort of movie I'd ever go see on my own. It's the same reason I haven't seen Hotel Rwanda - when I look to rent a movie, I look for something fun and enjoyable, not something where when the credits roll I feel like slitting my wrists. x_x

Let's Positive Linking!
- Oh boy, this one's a real nutter. Look, lady, you have not had sex/married Sephiroth on the astral plane...accept that and move on with your life. Maybe try to make it with someone who, actually, y'know, EXISTS? (From [livejournal.com profile] jokersama.)
- A scary article on the less-than-helpful Katrina rescue efforts. (From [livejournal.com profile] gedrean.)
- A creepy creepy article on a Katrina detainment camp refugee camp, and other confirmation that tends to lend it credulity. (Both from [livejournal.com profile] jantalaimon.)
- And, in the same vein, a Denver Post article that also talks about the impenetrability (in or out) of these camps.

so how is Radiata Stories? It seems to be flying under most people's radar... you're one of only two people on my flist who has it and the other person hasn't started yet.

Sadly, knowlege of it seems to be mostly limited to tri-Ace fans. Which is kinda sad, actually, because it's very far from any other tri-Ace game in a lot of ways - no Motoi Sakuraba soundtrack; gameplay that's, well, simple compared to the incredibly deep micromanaging customizing systems of Star Ocean; and a lighthearted, comic plot.

It seems to be tri-Ace quality, though, if you know what I mean. And I highly recommend it - to me, it kind of feels like Threads of Fate meets Suikoden, so if either of those are up your alley, I'd say give it a spin.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say it was her finest work - I wouldn't say The Mummy films were ANYONE's finest work XD - but yeah, she was good in it. I also liked her in About a Boy (not in Sunshine, though, that film was DIRE) and I know I've seen her in other stuff and liked it but can't remember now what it was. x_x
