Congratulations to my fellow graduates [livejournal.com profile] rathershady, [livejournal.com profile] courters28 (even though she didn't walk) and [livejournal.com profile] marxspectre! Also, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dincrest!

OK, so the obligatory graduation post. The graduation party at Governor Stumpy's beforehand was fun - in addition to my parents and I, Courtney and Vinnie were there (along with Vinnie's parents and sister); my aunt Mo and cousin Hacky from Topeka; my older brother Niles; my mom's mentor (and my foster grandmother, and former director of the WC) Ruth; a family friend, Trish (a professor at Haskell in Lawrence); and later Jill and Maria, my former superiors at the WC, came in. We all had Stumpy's famous lemon cake, of course, and I believe I made believers out of most of the attendees. It was a fun crowd, and overall it was a a great party.

(Also, my mom was so distracted that she didn't make the big speech she'd been planning. Whew.)

As for the graduation itself, since I was an honors student I (along with Vinnie and Mark) got to process at the very front...as in, we were the first ones out and the first ones up.

For the record, I graduated with B.A.'s in History and English, not only as an honors student (red cord), but as an Honors College Scholar (for the thesis; blue cord). I also graduated cum laude in both History and English, so I got two bronze medals as well. I was all blinged out at this graduation, fo' sheezy.

Anyway, we had the worst commencement speaker EVAR. I am not joking. He spent like twenty minutes telling us about how he (at 10 years old) was the inspiration for Happy Meals and pimping his company's crappy ad campaign for UMKC that's currently running. It was the most un-inspirational speech - it actually SAPPED inspiration and enthusiasm from me. Not to mention that every time he spouted a retarded advertising slogan ("UMKC - it's a great place to get a life"), my eyes rolled violently in their sockets of their own accord. I hope he noticed, but he was almost certainly too wrapped up in himself to do so. Bleah.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting the packet of graduation pictures. I also have some pictures on my digital camera from the party (though sadly none of me during the ceremony, in regalia - though my aunt Becky took some which she'll probably send in a few weeks), so I'm hoping to post those tomorrow. Swag-wise, I also made out pretty well: my parents are getting me the final Marmalade Boy boxed set, I got a set of nice towels from Trish, and my aunt Becky gave me a cookbook plus money. In fact, cash-wise I made out with about $300! Woohoo! :D

(And the Stumpy's folks even gave me a whole extra lemon cake!)

However, I've been so preoccupied over the past week (with thesis, finals, graduation, etc.) that I haven't even been able to really look forward to my upcoming vacation. What vacation, you ask? My aforementioned big brother is taking my parents and me on a weeklong trip to Mustang Island in Texas, starting tomorrow morning (er, or this morning, I guess). When I get back, I'll post some introspective/retrospective entries about my college career. But since I find it unlikely that I'll manage to get on LJ much on my vacation, have a good week everybody!

...Now off to pack.

Thanks for the b-day wishes, dude. Too bad I'll be spending the day studying for a final, but I did get to see my friend's band play on Friday so I did eke out some fun this weekend.

Oh, and I hear you regarding crappy commencement speakers. When I graduated SUNY Albany, the keynote speaker was some boring-ass Earth Science professor who nobody even knew of. His speech was overly long. I believe the keynote speaker at Rutgers this year is Jane Goodall.

Yay, Disgaea Archer!

(Since I'm using Internet Explorer, I had to save-as and then look at it offline, since all I can normally see is a black box. I wonder why it won't load these PNGs, since it'll load them on other webpages...)

Three blind mice, three blind mice, to see it, as they run! see how they run! All they delayed the woman of the farmer whom their ends cut out, with Tranchiermesser. indeed a such thing in your life sees, made you like three blind mice.
From: [identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com
Heh, that one's not too hard. "Three blind mice," of course.

So, what does Tranchiermesser mean? Carving knife? If so, that's a good word to know if I ever end up having to carve someone up when I'm in Germany. "It's time for the torture to begin, can you please bring me the tranchiermesser? ♥"
