I wish I had more people to inflict Morning Musume on. XD

Anyway, as inspired by [livejournal.com profile] shisochou's post of like a month ago, I'm doing a hundred pieces of new information about me - new as in it's info that none of you have probably heard, or at least most of you haven't. It'll range from small, inconsequential things to grandiose life plans, and everything in between.

However, given the fact that I only have so much time at once, I'm only doing them ten at a time. More will follow, though. Anyway, if you ever wanted to find out more about teh Yosi, click on the LJ-cut below.

(And don't worry, it's all safe for work.)

1. I'm a really sound sleeper. I've slept through explosions not too far away that broke my neighbors' windows and knocked my parents' balcony door open. I've slept through Jordan and Will's glass-breaking parties when I was living in Kingston. I've slept through people yelling at me through a locked door or a window right by my bed. So needless to say, yes, I am a VERY sound sleeper. XD

2. I've always been super-crafty. Those who currently work with me can attest to my mad (beginner) knitting skillz, and over the years I've been into rubber stamping, scrapbooking, cross-stitching, candlemaking, sculpting, art, and pretty much any other craft you can think of. (Except tatting. I've never learned to tat.)

3. I also have a terrible sweet tooth. Because of this, I've gotten quite good at basic candymaking (though mostly just chocolate), baking, ice cream making, and generally any culinary art that results in something sweet and toothsome.

4. I've always been really smart - I was reading the newspaper out loud to my cousins when I was 2 - but I think I've gotten less freakishly so as I've gotten older. While some might think of me as an overachiever ("but you started college at 16, blahdy blah blah") I don't really - I see myself as very laid-back and not particularly driven or ambitious in any way, aside from wanting with a fiery passion to live in England.

5. I kind of live with my foot in my mouth. For example, the other day I inadvertently insulted one of my coworkers, Janie. She said, "Oh, I feel about like I look," in a kind of sigh. I, of course, replied with, "Oh, that's not good." *wince* I often tend to say things wrong, or use the wrong word, and totally change the meaning of what I was trying to say. This is irritating, because I'm actually pretty articulate and have a large vocabulary but I talk really fast and still my mouth can't keep up with my brain, which of course leads to not having good control of what comes out of it. XD

6. In addition to the inadvertent stuff, I can be intentionally bitchy at times. While I generally don't say anything, internally I can be really judgmental and harsh and nasty. It's something I have to constantly work at, and I've gotten to the point where I don't say those things (MOST of the time). I try to be a nice person, really!

7. I'm VERY shy. Around people I don't know, I tend to freeze and paste on a noncommittal smile and try to blend into the woodwork (and thus I might come off as a bit frosty/distant), and even with people I do know and am relatively comfortable with I'm often more comfortable just sitting there and listening to them talk than actually joining in the conversation. It's really hard for me to open up to people, and as for total openness - I'm not sure I've ever done that, even when I was a little kid. However, while that might make you think I'm an introvert I think I am actually a natural extrovert whose social skills just kinda suck and has hence adopted introversion by necessity. Also, as you might expect from that, I'm more articulate online and in writing than in person.

8. I've always been interested in the occult/paranormal. ESP, Tarot, cryptozoology, and all that fun stuff. When I was younger, I wanted to be a parapsychologist and/or cryptozoologist when I grew up. Then I came to my senses, realized I'd rather not be labeled "that nutcase" by the majority of the world for the next forty years, and changed to something else. Still, all this is a hobby of mine and I find it endlessly interesting.

9. The one color I never wear is pink, not because it's considered "girly" (after all, my favorite color is purple) but because I don't like it. I mean, I seriously detest it. Which makes it all the more ironic, I suppose, that I work in an office that looks like the inside of a candy box. XD

10. I've never actually been on a real, honest-to-God date. While I know that's probably not particularly surprising, it is kinda embarrassing. In fact, romantically speaking I have ABSOLUTELY NO EXPERIENCE, which makes the fact that people often ask for relationship advice from me unintentionally hilarious. Love Doctor Yosi is not in, yo.

In completely unrelated news, Oprah has announced a TV movie of Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God. That's good, right? Bringing wider attention to a good but often overlooked book? Well, see, you'd think that. I did too.

Then I saw that she's cast Halle Berry (star of such stellar, scintillating cinema features as Catwoman and BAPS) as the main character, Janie.

...

OMGWTF. *weeps* I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Sure, Halle's gorgeous, but from what I've seen she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag to save her life. D:

I always wanted to know...

What IS rubber stamping? It's not just putting rubber stamps on a paper, I should hope, since some people list it as a hobby XD (my hobby is to sign documents! Let's be best friends!!)

Well, that's the definition, but that's like saying that cooking is just mixing and heating food. You can do a lot with different papers and inks, and there's about 8 trillion gazillion different stamp designs out there. (In other words, if it exists, there's a stamp of it.) And you don't even have to stamp on paper - there's glass stamping, fabric stamping, etc. There's also other techniques that are generally considered in the realm of stamping/scrapbooking, like embossing, that can also give you more options to use.

Generally the art of stamping is all in how you arrange your design, what colors you use, etc. I'll cheerfully admit that most of the stuff I stamp is pretty butt-ugly, but some of the stamped stuff I've seen was so nice it made Hallmark look like a color-blind kindergartener.

Somerset Studio (http://www.somersetstudio.com/) and Rubber Stamper (http://www.rubberstamper.com/) are the big stamping magazines, and you can find more info there. As for samples of actual stamped things, there's a lot out there but this (http://www.tealdragon.net/rs/samples/samples.htm) is the first thing I came upon, and it has some pretty nice (albeit basic) projects.

As for stampers themselves, they tend to be chatty (I was once subscribed to a rubberstampers listserv, and there were like 400+ posts a day, wtf). As with a lot of crafts, a large percentage of participants tend to be female, middle-aged, and/or Christian (the amount of "inspirational" rubber stamped stuff out there is mind-boggling), but generally they're pretty nice.

Speaking of Crapwoman. I still need to get ahold of the script so I can MST it. The only scripts I've found are old drafts.

She was clearly cast because she's a Strong Black Woman Positive Role Model, you insensitive clod. Good grief.

Believe me, BAPS and Catwoman did more to set back black actors than Chris Rock's entire career. I suppose, though, if you need a role model/poster child for succeeding on the merit of your looks while lacking a shred of talent, she fits the bill.

Have you ever noticed there's only allowed to be one Strong Black Woman Positive Role Model in Hollywood at a time? I'm hoping that Halle is soon ousted to be replaced by someone more worthy of the title. Let her go back to shilling for Revlon and stop polluting our movie screens with her talentlessness.
