gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (Needlessly peppy)

Whew! Iowa (at least the online part) and Cornell are submitted. That's two more down. Only four to go (Syracuse, UT-Austin, Rutgers, and Edinburgh). In related news, the only thing that's kept me even halfway sane during the whole process today is the shibbylicious Last.FM (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jantalaimon for the heads-up).

For future reference, though, any of you who want to apply to grad school for this fall need to start doing so NOW unless you can afford grad school sans scholarships. Most schools' financial aid deadlines have already passed (in other words, you might get in but you'll get nothing but federal aid like loans and Pell grants) - I've squeaked in under a few, I think, though my reference letters will have to be coming later. (The only ones I've been looking at that have post-January financial aid deadlines so far are UT-Austin [2/1], Rutgers [3/1], and Edinburgh [sometime in mid-to-late March, I think].) So here's hoping I get something. *crosses fingers*

(And of course, if I get into Oxford, I'm going, aid or no aid. I mean, it's OXFORD, for cryin' out loud! I'll go out selling matches in a cute little frock if I have to in order to pay for it.)

Here's my schedule of classes, more for my reference than anything:

American Lit II - MWF 11-11:50 - Education 244
General Geology - TR 9:30-10:45 - Royall 404
Structure of English - TR 12:30-1:45 - Royall 403
Honors Colloquium - W 3-4 - Cockefair 104
Honors Senior Thesis - TBA (no actual class meetings, but a buttload of independent research; this is what I've been doing with the diary)

Short summary: The thesis looks like fun but a helluva lot of work; Geology looks boring but not too hard (and at least [livejournal.com profile] rathershady is taking it too); American Lit II is...well, American lit and hence I have very little interest in it (plus, one more time through Hemingway and I may have to kill someone); Structure of English is a linguistics class - 'nuff said; and Honors Colloquium will probably be the spectacular waste of time it usually is. Not the most fun of semesters, but it's the final one, hallelujah!

Edit: That should be American Literature I, which only goes up to the Civil War or thereabouts and hence should have no Hemingway, at least. :D

Geology is a fascinating subject. Although I prefer the paleontology branch of earth science more.

Well, see, there are parts of geology I find fascinating - I like gemstones and minerals and various kinds of rocks - but given my experience with the boring-ass physical geography class last semester (that SHOULD have been an environmental science class), I'm not holding out a whole lot of hope.

At least your classes don't require you to walk from one end of campus to another.

(And I had completely forgotten that Royall Hall had upper floors with classrooms. Did you know that I took at least seven classes in Royall 111?)

Yeah...there have been a couple of semesters where I was literally running between the Bloch School and Royall because I had classes ten minutes apart. x_x

(Oddly enough, I only had one class in 111; all of mine were in 104. But I'm also always vaguely surprised to have classes up on the fourth floor of Royall - I'd never had one up there before I hit junior-senior level, and never realized there were classrooms up there until then. Having to climb all those stairs is a bitch, though, which probably tells you just how out of shape I am. XD)

I guess it was because I was a science major back then, because I had my General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Biology, Cell Biology, and a smattering of other classes in Royall 111.

Be glad you're done with it - now they only have one section of General Chemistry here, and it's at 7:40 in the morning. >_

That's the way it always has been if I remember correctly, because I took the 7:40 AM Chem class too. It was not particularly fun commuting every day during rush hour.

I was lucky enough to get "Yoshitsune." Be aware that my taste in music is deplorable - [livejournal.com profile] angrybabble once described me as a "soft-rock fiend," and I'm afraid she's mostly right. Lots of 80s sap and Britpop and some things that there is no excuse for (Backstreet Boys).

one's taste in music is often deplorable to many people who aren't the one in question. doesnae matter what it is you like. XD

*puts Busted's "Thunderbirds Are Go" on loop to, um, skew results a little XDXDXD*

You two can study together at work. Although by study I mean the Joseph method of study which involves opening the book and then all of us doing a crossword puzzle! :)
