I finally beat SO3 last night. And a massive gameblog follows, because in the past week I've got through basically half the game. (I've been marathoning it so that I could finish it in time for SMT3's release.)

OK, so after taming Crosell the air dragon our intrepid heroes managed to distract the Vendeeni so that they could escape the planet Elicoor. All the Elicoorians (Nel, Albel, Roger, and Adray) left the party. But then immediately more chaos begins, with mysterious death beams coming out and indiscriminately destroying Vendeeni and Federation ships. Rather than banding together against this new menace, the Vendeeni offer to exchange hostages with the Federation folks - they want Fayt, and they're willing to exchange his father and Sophia (both of whom they've captured) for him.

Well, of course, the Vendeeni betray them (because they're EEEEEVIL) and Dr. Leingod is killed in the process. But Random Elicoorian Seventh Party Member (actually, not random; it depends on your actions before the whole Crosell event) steps in and saves the day...in my case, it happened to be Nel because I like her and think she kicks ass. With his dying breath, Daddy Leingod tells his son and Maria that they'll find the answers to why he genetically modified them on Moonbase.

At this point Nel and Sophia join. And you know, I really don't like Sophia. She seemed like Rinoa at first, but now she's more like, I dunno, Aeris. You know, the "I'm so cute and perky and everyone loves me, tee hee! I don't need a personality or spunk or any of those nasty 'character trait' thingies! I can just be sickly-sweet because I'm the heroine!" type. My mom had some choice words to say about her, including "vapid" and "idiot" and "needs to grow a spine."

Anyway, so they go to Moonbase, battling these creepy-ass things called Executioners that are wreaking yet more indiscriminate havoc. There they run back into Peppita, who joins temporarily (and can join permanently, but I wanted cool, psychotically vengeful prettyboy Albel instead, so cruelly refused her when she wanted to stay).

This is when the game gets totally crack-inspired. See, Daddy Leingod and his fellow researchers were on Planet Styx (Stream in Japanese) looking at the Time Gate. (Yay for SO1 references!) There they discovered that it's not actually just for traveling through time - it's actually a gateway to another dimension. This world was created by a being from that dimension. The 4D beings are now getting pissed because humanity's getting into the whole symbological genetics game, and so were making plans to destroy the galaxy in order to keep their creations from surpassing them. So the Leingod team creates three symbologically genetically modified kiddies - Fayt, Maria and Sophia - to go into 4D space and save this world.

So they go to 4D space, only to find out that their 3D universe is called the "Eternal Sphere" (yay! SO2 reference!) and is actually a MMORPG that the 4D folks love to play. So they go through the 211-floor office building of the game's developer, kicking butt and taking names (and returning to Elicoor to pick up Albel), until they meet up with the Creator, Luther, who they defeat the first form of. He then proceeds to delete all Eternal Sphere data, before fighting you the second time. After beating him, you get to see the entire world being deleted. So, basically, the world ends, right?

Only not! Because Fayt thinks, therefore he is, and everything else follows from there. All the Eternal Sphere sensory input/output data is deleted, but everyone's minds still exist, and so I'm not going to go into consensual reality theory because it's clear to me that the game designers kinda pulled it out of their collective ass, but anyway therefore the world that everyone believes exists must exist. (Which is a very empiricist view of things - if I can sense it, it must be real!)

Then came the ending. I was PRAYING OMG not to end up with Sophia, and I didn't. I ended up with Adray, the old geezer. O_o Let me make it clear that this isn't "ended up with" ended up with...basically it has Fayt drinking tea with Adray, who asks him whether he's in love with Nel. Fayt splutters and is all "OMG NO we're just friends!!!11!" (because he's in love with Cliff!) So Adray says, "Well, since you're single, why don't you marry my daughter? You don't need to ask her...I know my daughter, and she wouldn't say no, if you know what I mean." (His daughter is Clair, Nel's partner in crime and quite probably her partner in another sense, if you know what I mean.) Clair, who's been listening at the door, motions her dad out of the room and then beats the crap out of him while Fayt's all, "It's not that I don't like Clair, but marrying her would mean having Adray for a father-in-law, and I'm not sure I can deal with that." Overall a very cute ending.

Darn it, though, I wanted the Cliff ending. I wonder what would have happened in it, since Cliff is now the Grand Poobah of the new Federation. Oh well, something to look forward to in a future playthrough.

I brought homemade bagels in to work today, and for breakfast I had homemade ice cream and homemade challah, all of which I made. They were really good, too...A WINNAR IS ME!!1! On the less bright side of things, we had a flat tire this morning and our phone and DSL is down - AGAIN - and so I had to call into work from a pay phone and wait in the drizzle for a bus. Oh well, at least the bagels made the trip OK. And since I just finished the first weekend in a month and a half for which I had no event/manic preparations scheduled, I can't really complain. Tomorrow's gonna be pretty hectic, though, what with a Historiography paper due (that I kinda sorta haven't started yet) and my OMG FUNTASTIC FIELD TRIP to Flush Creek. But it helps that I have SMT3 to look forward to! :D
