TOTALLY. I think I picked up on it in one of the earliest books, when Bess and George spend most of the book mad at each other over some family matter, and their fighting COMPLETELY came off as a lover's spat even to five-year-old me. XD

Also, Nancy/Ned was indeed like the most boring pairing ever. I'm still convinced Ned was just a cover for Nancy's tormented passion for George (who was actually more manly than Ned). XD
