alchemylab back onto my flist - BIG mistake. I will never go there again unless I am looking for something very specific, because it's too tempting to just be "ooh, I've heard good things about this one, oh, I should get this one, etc."
MI-GO BRAIN CANISTER
"They were pinkish things about five feet long; with crustaceous bodies bearing vast pairs of dorsal fins or membraneous wings and several sets of articulated limbs, and with a sort of convoluted ellipsoid, covered with multitudes of very short antennae, where a head would ordinarily be.... As it was, nearly all the rumours had several points in common; averring that the creatures were a sort of huge, light-red crab with many pairs of legs and with two great bat-like wings in the middle of their back. They sometimes walked on all their legs, and sometimes on the hindmost pair only, using the others to convey large objects of indeterminate nature. On one occasion they were spied in considerable numbers, a detachment of them wading along a shallow woodland watercourse three abreast in evidently disciplined formation. Once a specimen was seen flying—launching itself from the top of a bald, lonely hill at night and vanishing in the sky after its great flapping wings had been silhouetted an instant against the full moon."
The Mi-Go are the Fungi from Yuggoth [the planet we naïvely dubbed Pluto], a crustacean-like, winged humanoid race that travel to the highest mountain peaks on Earth to mine for minerals. They do pick up the occasional human brain during their trips to Earth, which they transport back to Yuggoth in a canister. While in this brain jar, the transported brain is fully-conscious, and, thanks to the miracles of modern Mi-Go technology, is possessed of all its faculties and the power of speech.
In an effort to create a pleasing environment during a surprise trip to Yuggoth, we have created a soothing yet stimulating blend of pink pepper, peony, jasmine, mango, kiwi, pomegranate, pineapple, white ginger, serene white tea and light musks. Bon voyage!
I will cheerfully admit that I picked this up for three reasons:
1) it's a Lovecraft scent, and I like Lovecraft;
2) it's supposedly fruity, and I like fruity scents
3) dude, it's called Mi-Go Brain Canister. How much better can you get, name-wise? XD
In the bottle: It smells fruity!
Wet: It smells kind of like tropical fruit-flavored bubblegum - I can't really pick out any specific ones, but it's nice. There's a hint of florals, too, but it's mostly fruit.
Dry: The florals have amped up a bit - the jasmine is starting to predominate. It's a very gentle jasmine, though, rather than the jasmine I'm more used to which is all "HERE I AM, I'M JASMINE!!!1!" I can also smell the pepper and the tea, which give this an undertone of White Rabbit, but there's still enough sweet fruitiness in the background to counteract the bitter tea and pepper.
Verdict: It's nice - though it does fade pretty fast. I could wish that it had stayed a bit fruitier, but at least it's not super-girly-floral. :D
FRUIT MOON
The bountiful, bright and vivacious prelude to the Harvest. A horde of wet, ripe fruits: green apple, apricot, blackberry, black cherry, black and red currants, cantaloupe, English pear, guava, lemon and lime, orange, mandarin orange, kiwi and mango, passion fruit, papaya, Georgia peach, raspberry, plum, tangerine, pomegranate and strawberry over a luminous blend of lunar oils.
In the bottle: Like a cross between cherry limeades and bubblegum.
Wet: Whoa, now THIS is fruity. I'm picking up peach, raspberry, passion fruit, guava...basically every time I hold my arm up to my nose I smell another fruit. Very nice, though I wish my skin wouldn't amp up the blackcurrant the way it's doing - I know most of the world loves it, but I'm not exactly a big blackcurrant fan. (I would rather smell it than eat it though.)
Dry: Same as wet, blackcurrant and all. Maybe I'm getting used to the blackcurrant, or maybe my skin is sweetening it up, but it's doesn't smell as bitter as it did before.
Verdict: It's a great spring/summer scent - I'll probably have to wait till then to wear it, though, 'cause it's not really a winter scent.

- I kinda want to smack the irritating sense of self-entitlement out of this brat (assuming such a thing is possible). Newsflash, kid: not everything is about you!
