Zen and the art of mood maintenance
Apr. 15th, 2007 02:56 pmI am in a very peaceful, zen state right now, for no apparent reason (in fact, given how close the end of the semester is, it should be the complete opposite).
I got up early this morning to go hear my friend Stephanie deliver a presentation at the UI's Craft, Critique and Culture Conference, then got a couple of hours' work done at the office, and finally walked over to Dairy Queen and had a delicious (and cheap) lunch. Maybe my good mood is due to ice cream endorphins (I had a Blizzard for dessert), or it might be due to the weather, which is BEAUTIFUL: warm but not hot, a gentle breeze, and the birds are singing, the grass is green, the sun is shining...the only negative issue I have with it is that the bees have come out, though they seem to be staying to themselves and not trying to get all up in my bidness, which I approve of. Now I'm thinking I'm going to lie in bed and read a fun book that is not at all school-related, which might possibly segue into a nap. After that, I'm going to get up, take a relaxing bath, and translate some Beowulf before bed.
Perhaps I am finally achieving enlightenment. Or maybe it's just my brain's last-ditch denial of all that I need to do. Or maybe it's just the ice cream.
