ozzy + miss piggy ftw
Feb. 19th, 2006 01:01 pmWent to see Love's Labors Lost with
lordtravis last night. It was overall pretty good, and our Shakespeare classmate Tom (who was playing Armado) completely stole the show. It was set between WWI and WWII, so it kind of had that "frenzied merriment in the face of looming death" feel, which worked well for the play. The costumes and sets were great, and the actors were overall pretty good (even if the lords did look like a boyband with Bob Saget as Berowne).
However, they made some interesting gender decisions that I'm not entirely sure worked. They made Boyet, Moth, and Holofernes female - and not just played by female actors (since Moth, as a small youth, usually is), but actually made the characters female (i.e., referred to as "she" rather than "he," "madam" rather than "sir," etc.) I think they did that to even up the cast gender-wise (and so they could have them all pair up for an ass-slapping, crotch-grabbing, funny but oversexualized musical number to "Ain't Misbehavin'" halfway through). And while Moth worked fine, and so did Holofernes, Boyet just didn't quite. Because the entire point of Boyet's character is that he's the all-female princess' group's sole liaison to the King of Navarre's male-only court (because the play begins with Navarre passing an edict that they'll study for three years and can't talk to women PERIOD). Making Boyet female completely undercuts that. (Also, I wasn't entirely thrilled with the actress' performance, though she got better towards the end.)
Oh, and also the guy they got for Costard was scenery-chewin' like there was no tomorrow. Someone needed to smack him upside the head and tell him to stop acting like a character from Will and Grace.
But overall, it wasn't bad at all.

- The best dorm notice EVAR at Durham University. (From

- Check out Pandora, which is kinda like Last.fm only basing your station on a single song/artist. (From
bshippotemkin.) It's pretty cool, and has such gems on it as the one I'm listening to now. XD
- From eBay, have a scary vibrator that looks like a power sander. And another one. (From
courters28.) I'm trying to decide whether EWWW or OWWW is the correct exclamation.
