gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (Ban in happier days (by kirakins))
Today after class I made a quick stop by Osco to drop off the prescriptions I finally got yesterday for my UC meds - cause I was running low (as in, I took my last dose this morning). They told me it would be about ten minutes before I could pick them up, so I decided to wait.

In comes a middle-aged woman with her daughter, who was probably thirteen. She went several rounds with the pharmacist, but what it basically came down to was that she didn't want to pay the $2 for her daughter's prescription, since the daughter was under 18. She said she wasn't supposed to.

Now up to this point this is all good and well, and I thought she had a point. But the prescription was for insulin; the daughter's blood sugar, according to the mother, was over 300; and when the pharmacist apologetically said that she couldn't waive the copay, she'd have to talk to her insurance, the lady just stormed out. The pharmacist called after her, "So you don't want to pay the $2 for your daughter's medication?" The woman snitted back, "I did that somewhere else and then they didn't reimburse me."

...uh, HELLO SELFISH BITCH. 300+ blood sugar is NOT GOOD (assuming she was telling the truth). Paying the $2 for your daughter's insulin will be hella cheaper than hospitalization for diabetic coma. Not to mention that I'm sure your daughter would rather you paid the $2, because having high blood sugar is NOT FUN EITHER.

And as I immediately after paid ~$130 for my UC meds - and was perfectly pleasant about it - diabetes lady gets no sympathy from me. >_<

Looking back, though, that was awfully high for my meds - I may need to check my insurance and see if they put something in wrong or something. 'Cause I thought it was about comparable to my parents' plan, where I paid a max of like $75 for both 'scrips. x_x

Anyway, on my way home I was kinda irritated at this woman's pretty selfish actions. But as I was walking up to a driveway that led out to the street, a driver who was partially pulled up into the driveway (getting ready to turn out onto the street) saw me walking and pulled back a little to give me room to walk. I gave him a big smile and mouthed "Thanks." And that totally put me in a super-cheerful mood for the rest of the walk home - to the point that I was giving big beaming smiles at random people, and they were smiling back (and in a genuine way, not that tentative "hi-should-I-know-you-eep-humor-the-crazy-stranger" way). Which was nice. :)
