The icon is to honor the day
Jul. 4th, 2004 11:40 pmHappy Independence Day weekend to all! (And, er, happy random day to you Brits on the flist.)
Spent this evening browsing the British Council USA website, whose purpose is basically to encourage US students to study in the UK. I've found quite a lot of good info on the site, like info on scholarships specifically for Americans doing study in the UK, but the most notable bit was that it is now possible to get federal Stafford loans to study in the UK if you're going to one of the 100+ approved universities (and from a cursory check, it seems that nearly all of the reputable universities are approved, including all those I'm looking at). Hot damn, that makes things easier - I'm one step closer to study in England and inevitableworld domination fruitful career. >D
You know, it's sort of odd that instead of celebrating America on this most patriotic of holidays, I've been busy trying to discover how to leave it. (B-but I DID get some finger-lickin' good Fiorella's Jack Stack barbecue, which proves that I'm a card-carrying, red-blooded American, right? Right?)
...For some inexplicable reason, tonight I'm feeling the need for nonstop slushy 80s soft-rock ballads. And even more inexplicably - and horrifically - I'm also feeling the need to sing along. AUGH THE HUMANITY - you haven't heard awful until you've heard me crooning along to Richard Marx.
