The sun is shining, birds are singing...it's just such an effin' nice day out that I just want to grab a blanket and go lie out on the quad. It reminds me of early summer days in England, only slightly more humid (but not to an uncomfortable extent).
Speaking of England, I was reading the flist yesterday evening and found this entry by
eikitty. My first thought was, "oh man, I wish I could just jet off to England this summer like they want to."
My second thought was "hey, why the hell not?"
After all, paying for grad school shouldn't be too much of a problem (especially if I get into the program I want, which is a one-year Master's degree - shorter and hence cheaper) thanks to the life insurance money from my dad. (And, to be honest, that's the sort of money that if I'm going to spend it is going to be on something weighty like education or the like, anyway - that's not money I'd feel right blowing on anime DVDs or Angel boxsets.)
But I am making a decent amount off my workstudy job, combined with the $300/mo from my dad's retirement fund that I get until I turn 22 and/or graduate...if I can live off my workstudy money, then I can put away a good $1200 over the next few months and maybe take a week or so vacation to England in August, before classes start up again. (And if I can find something to research for my senior honors thesis over there, I can maybe even get some of my costs defrayed by the SEARCH committee for undergraduate research.) So...it's eminently doable, if I'm just frugal over the next four months or so!
Peace out.
