Huh, that is interesting. Our stove has four knobs along the back, and each has a little diagram with the burner it goes to lit up, so it's not hard to figure it out if you take a second to double-check, but it's such automatic habit to my mom she never thinks to.
But yeah, I might try making masking-tape lines linking each knob to the proper burner (at least temporarily) to help us get into the right habit.
