Ch-ch-ch-changes

Just finished the newest Harry Dresden book by Jim Butcher, Changes...and it was totally awesome, as expected, but wow the author REALLY wasn't lying when he said this was the book that changes everything (as per the title). Also HOLY CLIFFHANGER ENDING BATMAN WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Also why is no one else I know reading these books, sob

Also I have been watching the new Doctor Who! I am greatly enjoying Smiffy as the Eleventh Doctor, and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond is adorable and awesome.

Highlights of the season so far including all the Doctor's interactions with young Amelia, Amy ogling the changing Doctor, the new TARDIS, Amy's awesomeness in figuring out the space whale thing, the general lack of romance between Amy and the Doctor (I kind of love her perception of him as an ancient space whale) and also OH YEAH WINSTON CHURCHILL AND DALEKS AT THE END OF THE LAST EP, HELL TO THE YES

Lowlights of the season so far include very little aside from the new theme tune. Seriously? The synthesizer-tastic 80s versions were better than this, which doesn't even sound like the same song for the first ten to fifteen seconds! What kind of crack was Murray Gold on when he came up with this, and when can they change it to something more resembling the classic theme tune we know and love?

Also, in two weeks we have Weeping Angels:

...which is apparently a two-parter, no less. The era of Moffat seems off to a grand start so far...let's hope it keeps it up!

In other news, I sent off a prospectus draft this past week, and hope to send out the final draft next week. All things going well, I should have it approved and starting the dissertation should be go by the end of the month!

Aaah! I didn't know you read the Dresden books! I'm only up to, uh. Blood Rites, though I've read one or two of the "A novel from the Dresden Files" ones, which I was waay later in the storyline. I still need to do a lot of catching up though!

Yay, I'm not the only one! I think they're all pretty good (well, the first two aren't as memorable) but the series really kicks into high gear in Dead Beat (the book after Blood Rites). And yessss you should totally catch up so we can talk about the newest book!

Haha I think I read two Dresden books, the first one and like... the fifth one. ~_~;;; I'm putting my love into the Felix Castor books, muahahaha.

Those are the ones by Mike Carey, right? I think I own the first one (got it on remainder), but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. So they're good?

I liked it, but I don't have particularly discerning tastes I imagine... I guess if you liked his comic book work (Lucifer & Hellblazer especially, of course), then it will probably be right up your alley? But if you liked Dresden Files I think you will like the Castor novels too. Entertaining supernatural horror mystery stories~

I'm enjoying the new season of Doctor Who, I was going crazy waiting for it. I can't wait to see next week's episode with some Churchill. I did really like the phone call at the end of episode two, I thought that was really cute.

Yeah, I liked the phone call too! Shades of the Brig back in the day.
