Running down the avenue, see how the sun shines brightly

So! Have some links, since I need to close Safari down to be able to check my Gmail.

Let's Positive Linking!
- An interesting article on the new first family, and especially the diversity of the Obamas' extended family and how that is reflecting much more the makeup of the United States.
- New anti-lead law may lead to kids' books being made prohibitively expensive or unavailable. Okay, so I get the reasons for this whole lead craziness over kids' toys - no one wants their kid to end up with lead poisoning - but seriously, bitches need to sit the fuck down and draft laws that actually do what they need to do and no more. HAY GUYS WHY DON'T WE BAN PENCILS, THEY HAVE "LEAD" IN THE NAME, RIGHT
- Hirohiko Araki (of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) creates manga for the Louvre (from [livejournal.com profile] youkofujima). WHY CAN I NOT BE IN FRANCE BEFORE APRIL T_T
Also how fitting is it that Rohan's the one at the Louvre? Though I sort of wish they'd had him do a gigantic sculpture of Kira standing in front of the Mona Lisa and looking at her hands instead. Also didn't either Pucci or Dio have some fascination with the Mona Lisa too? Oh, Araki, you and your WAYS.
- Don't Be Panic! God, this reminds me so much of some of my student papers, especially when I was teaching Rhetoric. Jesus wept.
- Footie Pajamas for Grownups...I totally want a set. And it reminds me of that scene from Scrubs..."why yes, ladies, it IS a onesie."
- The Worst Dub in History (totally NS4W for language), which happens to be the dub used for the hentai anime Bible Black. (Don't worry, I don't think it shows any porn scenes, although the language is pretty, um, questionable, though not as much so as the voice acting.)
- More horrific hentai (and this is DEFINITELY NSFW, as the YouTube link got taken down so it's only available on a pornsite that I could find). This one isn't particularly badly dubbed, but it's the content of this sex scene (and it IS a sex scene, unlike the last one) which makes it so disturbing. "Now cluck like a chicken! Now like you're laying a gigantic egg!"
- Caramelldansen, Persona 4 edition (complete with spoilers, sadly). I think my favorite is Kanji, with a face like a stormcloud while doing the dance, although Yosuke's, Chie's and Teddie's beaming faces are also awesome. ALSO DOJIMA DANCES TOO. (As do Adachi, and Nanako, and...) So, it's basically awesome.

That's all of the "normal" links I have, but as I am an awesome person and my Safari tabs are entirely too full still, you get a second helping of linkage, this time all food-related!

Let's Positive Linking - Dinnertime Edition!
- Hamburger- and popcorn-shaped vacuum cleaners, which are, in a word, awesome.
- Similarly awesome is the Slush-It, which turns anything into slush and even has a nifty color-change patch (and the video on the website of the pop actually turning to slush in a few seconds once it's opened is TOTALLY SWEET and makes me want one ridiculously badly).
- And now to the bad stuff...if you're eating, you may want to stop now. Least offensive is this video of ikizukuri (i.e., fish prepared alive), which features the fish cut up and served on a plate BUT WITH ITS HEART AND GILLS STILL WORKING (and the same for the tiny octopus in the background). Who the fuck would eat this, I have no idea. :(
- Even more offensive to me, though, is anything Sandra Lee has ever done. Exhibit A, in which she makes "heirloom Noel cake" - just like grandma made, or would have if she'd had access to spray icing, Twizzlers and someplace to buy baked and unfrosted layer cakes.
- Exhibit B, in which she does "take out in," which involves something called "beer margaritas." Also apparently pizza, tiramisu and "wonton Napoleons" are all Mexican-inspired...good to know.
- Exhibit C, the infamous Kwanzaa cake. Angel-food cake, frosted with disgusting-looking icing (seriously, adding TWO TEASPOONS OF VANILLA to already vanilla-flavored icing? ewww), filled with apple pie filling, and decorated with "acorns" and "Kwanzaa candles."
- And finally, exhibit D, which is perhaps the worst culinary abortion I've seen her do. Not to mention bitch needs to stop dissing my homeboy A.C. Slater and his smiley-face cookie, especially since this cake truly does make Wal-Mart commercials look ineffably classy in comparison.
- Oh, and one more: not only does the woman LOOOOOVE her booze, but this "tablescape" is possibly the most horrifying thing I've ever seen. It's a CHAIR, painted GOLD, with FAKE VINES ON IT, WHAT THE FUCK
- Finally, a video of someone making her (in)famous Semi-Homemade Cherry Pie. Unsurprisingly, it turns out pretty crappy.

...wow, I had a lot of tabs open. XD

Sandra Lee is more offensive to me than outright bigotry. Seriously. What a cow.

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...her Kwanzaa cake was not exactly the height of cultural sensitivity, was it? XD

[identity profile] t3andcrumpets.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
She's just... offensive. She hurts me.

[identity profile] tastystirfry.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Frankly, I love that she's a borderline alcoholic. I mean, she makes cocktails out of everything (her definition of cocktail is "putting booze in it")

[identity profile] t3andcrumpets.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
*gets a diet coke and pours cherry vodka into it* I call this the "What the FUCK I'm going to die anyway!" cocktail. :)

[identity profile] tastystirfry.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
also: another reason sandra lee is offensive:
her kitchen changes colors to match what she's wearing/making.

[identity profile] t3andcrumpets.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Sandra Lee is almost as high on the list of offensivity as Rachel Ray. I just... dude, no.

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she doesn't quite beat Rachael Ray...if I hear her inane exclamations ("yum-o!") or overly cutesy abbreviations (EVOO) one more time, I'm going to beat her head in with a rolling pin.

[identity profile] t3andcrumpets.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not drizzle her in olive oil and spices and stick her in the oven?

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, the "foodie Hansel and Gretel approach"...it's a classic!

[identity profile] t3andcrumpets.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
hehehehe

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
HAY SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED THAT

I thought I was imagining things!

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
lol did you see this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jaRjhVYkxw)

Apparently pouring Hypnotiq into a glass is worthy of being named her "ocean breeze cocktail." XD

[identity profile] tastystirfry.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
i can't wait until the episode where she makes purple drank and gives it a fruity suburban housewife name

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
"I call this my Purple Zinger cocktail! See, they have this nifty new thing where you pour powder in a pitcher and add water to make a sort of fruity drink. Now, my twist is that instead of using water, we use vodka...but not just any vodka, no. You use one part regular vodka, and one part fruit-flavored vodka! Choose something complimentary...in this case, we use grape vodka, and then garnish with some frozen red grapes and some purple ribbon tied around the stem of the glass. Isn't that just beautiful? And it makes four...one for now and three for later!"

[identity profile] tastystirfry.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
i died laughing everytime those videos would repeat one of her cracks about drinking

then i watched another one about intervention, and apparently she mother used to beat her and was a drug addict

then i felt kinda bad

but then i looked at the kwanzaa cake and i realized that i wasn't in the wrong

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, a crappy childhood is no excuse for those culinary abortions; I'm sure she's a very nice person as a human being, but as a cook she's pretty crappy. XD

[identity profile] jokersama.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
DAMMIT, ARAKI, WHY WHEN I CAN'T GET TO THE LOUVRE

But you're right, there are SO many possibilities for Araki and that museum. T_T

As for the ikizukuri, I dunno, I've bought live fish/crabs/whatever and had to kill them myself to eat them, so that video didn't disturb me at all. If you eat meat, it's part of the process!

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, I get that animals have to die...it's the whole "drawing it out by eating them alive" part. Kind of like how I can't eat lobster because I know it's boiled alive. I'm fine with animals getting killed quickly and ideally humanely before they're cooked, it's the whole "still squirming on the plate" thing that gets me, because if they're still breathing and their heart's still beating, they're probably still feeling pain. :(

(Also I imagine having a fish squirming in my mouth as it goes down would make me vomit like there's no tomorrow...I'm just sayin'.)

[personal profile] eggsbenedict 2009-01-26 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
B-but you're supposed to chill the lobster in a freezer or fridge then split or spike it before cooking it alive. At least those are the guidelines most Australians follow, they've been published by the RSPCA XD;

Oh man the Sandra Lee videos hurrrrttt... so of course I shared the pain with some friends today!

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, here the standard method is still to just pull the lobster out of the tank of water, maybe rinse it off, then dump it in boiling water. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xxcv5jvRmcg)'s an example. :(

And glad to give you some nightmare fuel for your fellow cooks!

[identity profile] bemysty.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ohgod, I'm gonna throw up

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Sandra Lee does inspire that reaction. :(

[identity profile] tastystirfry.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Regarding the lead children's books, I want to remind you that paper cuts happen and are the leading cause of ouchies in children 8 to 10.

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
This is true! And in the case of hemophiliac children, it could KILL THEM! I lobby that all paper should be made with soft, ruffly edges and rounded corners! Sure, it would cost billions of dollars to refit all the publishing industry's machines, but WHAT ABOUT THE CHILLUNZ

[identity profile] tastystirfry.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
i can tell by your smarmy tone that you do not, in fact, care about the children!

[identity profile] tastystirfry.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
can't edit arrgjagja

you must be a card carrying member of SSCCATAGAPP!!

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Curses, you've caught me out! I'm secretly a baby-hater!

[identity profile] eikitty.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I love that comic muchly and hate Sandra Lee with a fiery burning passion.

SHE IS INFERIOR! EX~TER~MI~NATE!!!!

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, Sandra Lee vs. the Daleks is something I would pay to see. XD

[identity profile] eikitty.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Can you see her trying to co-host "Semi-Homemade" with a Dalek?

SANDRA: I bet you thought omelets were difficult, but by using EggBeaters and pre-made salsa, they're a flip away from finished! Wouldn't you say so, Dalek?
DALEK: DALEKS DO NOT EAT OMELETS! DALEKS ONLY CONSUME THEIR ENEMY!
SANDRA: That's funny! I thought you would love them, since you have an eggbeater all hooked up on your front. (off camera: Is that the front? I can't tell...)
DALEK: DO NOT INSULT THE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY OF THE DALEK! YOU ARE AN IMBECILE AND WILL BE EXTERMINATED!

[identity profile] gedrean.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yay two sets of sunglasses. All I have to say.

[identity profile] gedrean.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
And Sandra Lee is a dirty whore.

[identity profile] yoshitsune.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think that's the best touch. XD

(Anonymous) 2009-11-20 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I googled "Sandra Lee is a dirty whore" to see if anyone was thinking the same thing I was. Yep. Thank you.
