Somewhere beyond the frozen fields, I clearly see the end of our misery, a part of the place we knew
A random question: why do so many child stars complain about not getting any work once they hit puberty and hence being poor and alone, but somehow they have the money to support expensive drug habits?
Also, if you ever played the SNES game Chrono Trigger, you might be interested in checking out Chrono Symphonic, a remix of some of the songs from the game as a movie soundtrack. It's pretty awesome, actually. Even the vocals, which can be iffy in OC remixes, are great (though I have a sneaking suspicion the Japanese in the vocal sections may be fanboy Japanese, eep). In fact, if you ever played videogames at all as a kid, especially in the '80s and early-to-mid '90s (NES/SNES era), you may want to check out OverClocked Remixes just for the nostalgic value.
Also, happy birthday to
sergiekins!
Let's Positive Linking!
- Apparently they're making a sequel to Elizabeth. I'd probably better watch the original one of these days; I tried to watch it with my parents, but they turned it off because I was complaining too loudly about the historical inaccuracies. D:
- RealHamster, a parody of the RealDoll website. It's worth a laugh, though it's probably not worksafe.
- Some awesome Engrish from a Chinese restaurant menu. I'll have a Cowboy Leg Beautiful Pole, please, with Sankist to drink. XD
- The Persona 3 official website. Just FYI.
- MTV writes about this startling new fad, yaoi. (From
sergiekins.) Way to be behind the times, MTV - have you ever heard of slash? Also, apparently it's pronounced "yow-ee." XD
- Annie Proulx pulls an Anne Rice. (From
jokersama.) While I too think, from everything I've heard and from what I hear from people I trust, that Brokeback probably should have won over Crash, there's no need to be so catty and sour-grapes-ish. I liked your story and all, and I'm sure I'll like the movie, but you'll just have to accept the fact that it's not a Scientologist plot by the "heffalumps" to keep your book from winning.
- The first episode of Captain N the Game Master. Sure, he's the original video game Marty Stu, but that doesn't lessen the awesome nostalgia value of this show. XD
- The Final Fantasy XII intro, also FYI. It's in Japanese but the action is pretty self-explanatory.
- OH MY GOD THAT'S SO COLD. As a Joss Whedon fan, I am personally offended (but also amused)! >F
- More pictures of the Japanese penis festival. Just in case this linkspam was running low on wacky Japanese stuff!
- Win a date with Rob Liefeld...but only if you're 15 or under! CREEPIEST CONTEST EVAR. (Also, this comment thread on that post KILLED ME DEAD. XD
- Isaac Hayes resigns from South Park because of its making fun of religion. (From
lordtravis.) Only, as they point out, he had no problem with it making fun of Christians for years, just for making fun of Scientology. Hypocrite. XD
- Soft Ball Run, a parody of Hirohiko Araki's Steel Ball Run (set in an alternate history of the JoJoverse). It features Jommy Joestar, Gyko Zeppeli, Dieko Brando, Pocoloko, Sandman Lady, and in general changes the gender of all the characters except for Johnny. "Gyko" now, instead of steel balls in a holster on his chest (and believe me, making fun of everyone's desire to touch Gyro's balls never gets old), has, er, holsters for her breasts. Accordingly, when "Jommy" touches them, his legs aren't the only things standing at attention, if you know what I mean. Anyway, this is a horrific yet amusing travesty of JoJo, but it's short and gives you kind of a good idea of what SBR is about. Just reverse most of the genders, keep the gayness in, and you'll have a good idea of what the real SBR is like. XD
- Entertainment Weekly gave Night Watch an F, wtf? Not that I ever had a whole lot of faith in their reviewers, but still, geez.
Also, along the same lines, from comments on Pajiba's Night Watch review:
I’m Russian and I saw Night Watch and Day Watch and read the Lukyanenko’s trilogy.
I liked the novels. While not being too long, the novels are very well written, with a gripping and complex plot, and raise some philosophical questions.
Now about Night Watch.
The main reason I disliked the movie was the bad script. By the way, the movie was originally shot as a mini- series, and then edited down to movie size – hence the erratic storyline, lots of loose ends and uneven plot pacing. Surprisingly, Lukyanenko himself co-wrote the script.
It’s a known fact that Night Watch was targeted toward the audience who read the book. For viewers who didn’t, there is a little funny rap song accompanying the final credits, which retells in plain language the movie plot for those who couldn’t follow it. I’m not sure whether the song was translated to English, as I watched the Russian version.
Yesterday I saw the Day Watch movie and really liked it.
The movie is a totally different thing, much more dynamic and fun. It has a coherent storyline, quite a few humorous moments, and a special thanks to the script writers for the destroyed Ostankino TV tower.:)
I plan to see Dusk Watch too.
...sounds pretty good! :D :D :D

Which I guess was the reviewers point...but I still don't think it's a fair comparison.

...That South Park article is so ironic. SO ironic, I don't even know where to begin.

Combine that with all the ones at the end utilizing "fuck" and you see the dangers of machine Chinese-to-English translation!

Did you see the one that said "Every form rape"?
It's just a bad coincedence with the translation, I guess!
