(no subject)

There are times that I really hate my materialistic streak.

Like, for example, the fact that since we use iMacs at the Speaking Center - in fact, I'm typing this entry on one now - I'm seriously considering getting a Mac (desktop or laptop) for when my desktop inevitably craps out on me, because it's really nice. >_>

I SWORE I WOULD NEVER BECOME ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE, THOSE CRAZY APPLE FANS WITH THE MANIACAL GLEAM IN THEIR EYES...and here I am, with an iPod, and considering buying a Mac eventually. GOOD GRIEF, AUGH

Maybe I should just get a nicer monitor next time though, since while the Mac interface and such is appealing, what I find the most enticing is the awesome awesome monitor that makes everything look ridiculously pretty, even when you're just checking LJ or surfing ONTD. And I really do like Windows XP too, for different reasons. (Though you can run that on Macs now too, that's right...how is software compatibility when running PC games and other software on Mac-XP?)

One thing is for sure, though; if when I look at buying another computer, Vista is my only PC option, then you better believe I'm buying a Mac. (I hate Vista with a fiery passion, mostly because every single person I know who has it complains about it, and the one time I had to use it on my brother's PC I didn't find it all that intuitive either. Not that easy to use + taking out functionality = a sucky OS.)

ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE

Reporting for duty! :D

XP runs like it runs on any other machine - it doesn't realise it's on a Mac or anything. :P You have to reboot rather than run it in Parallels for the best experience, though it'll run porn 2D games fine from within OS X.

But you're not one of the people I'm talking about, you're sane. XD

I was talking less about Mac users in general and more the crazy-eyed radical fringe who are convinced that OS X can cure cancer and make French toast in bed for you, or who buy all Apple products on release day just because they're Apple and therefore must be perfect. XD

And it's nice to know that XP runs fine...and it's nice to know you can do basic stuff in it without switching out of OS X, too. (Or Leopard or whatever the new one is called.)

They're all OS X, but each new big cat name (Panther, Tiger, Leopard) represents big functionality updates and UI changes. Tiger is still my favourite for now, but Leopard will probably grow on me by the time we get to 10.5.4 or so!

Huh! I should check which one we use at the Speaking Center, since that's what I'm used to.

I have to say, I quite like OS X so far, at least for basic stuff. I haven't tried to do anything complex on the computer there - just checking e-mail, using Word and the like - but it's worked out pretty well overall. And it's really pretty too. >_>
