I can't believe I forgot to mention this before -- by all means you should go check out Stanislaw Lem's novel / short-story anthology (the stories tie together) "The Star Diaries", in which among other things the narrator encounters a planet of robots that all talk like Chaucer and enjoy the tastes of the Marquis de Sade.
