Reading Chaucer in Middle English isn't that hard once you get used to it. I took a Chaucer class at UI as an undergrad, and it was all in ME. I found reading out loud at first helped to get used to the language.

Besides, you want real torture, try reading Chaucer's "Troilus and Criseyde."
