I probably should have gone with the Bibleslash.
Today at work we'd had an event we'd been preparing for for a while - we had in Third Wave feminists Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards, authors of Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future and Grassroots: A Field Guide for Feminist Activism. They were both really cool and well-spoken, and their lecture went really well even though attendance was kinda light (and despite the bizarre questions they were asked by members of the audience). I bought both of their books and got them signed, and I'm looking forward to reading them. (As if I need anything else to distract me from my senior honors thesis right now.)
...You know, there's no books out there about male feminists.
rathershady and I totally need to do one. XD
I also talked to one of my classmates who'd been trying to get ahold of me. I know he's Christian and into the whole Bible-group thing, and I was afraid that was what he wanted to talk to me about; sure enough, he wants to discuss the Bible with me. And the sad thing is, he was totally nice and cool and non-pressurey about it, and I don't know how it happened but somehow I agreed to it. The thing is, he was just so NICE! (And I like him and think he's pretty cool, generally.) If he'd been jerky or pressurey, I would have had no qualms about cutting him deador giving him a copy of the "Oh come Holy Spurt!" Jesus slash fanfic, but...urk. wtf.
But hey, I warned him that a) I disagree with a lot/most of the stuff in the Bible, and b) I can be really snarky about the Bible and, well, organized religion in general. He said he isn't easily offended, but we'll see how it goes when I start in on the endless contradictions and not-so-nice implications contained within the Bible. (The Old Testament, especially, is chock-full of that stuff.)
...I am a total marshmallow. -_-;
Let's Positive Linking!
- Wow, this is really sad. I think if my family hadn't been what they were, though, that could easily have been me. (Maybe not QUITE so gifted - I probably wouldn't have been going to college at like 8 - but still, I was totally academically ready for college in sixth or seventh grade.)
- On a lighter note, this (from
enkiae) is the funniest thing I've read all week. o/` I'm not that chained up senile old coot who passed down all his moves to you o/`
- I find it hard to believe there's anyone on my friendslist who hasn't read Something Positive - hell, it's hard for ME to believe it took me this long to get hooked on it - but if you haven't, go check it out. NOW. I MEAN IT.

Did you see the glimmer in her eye as she explained how a stool sample can tell you how much Jesus is in someone's heart?
