All of y'all who are interested in Megaten and/or the Persona games should check out [personal profile] manticore's new forum for discussion of Persona 2 (and other Megaten games) at The Allegory of Whatever.

(For the record, I will be getting Innocent Sin at some point this week, whenever I can make it out to GameStop.)

PERSONA 2 PORTABLE TRAILER

OMG LOOKS PRETTY AWESOME, though I notice Jun has been mostly removed, aside from a few nods here and there (and one headless shot of him in school uniform). This makes sense, as would not want to spoil people for the CRAZY AWESOME (and awesome crazy).

Anyway, in honor of this upcoming rerelease (for which more art has come out), I feel it's time to resurrect a long-dormant feature of my LiveJournal over here, which is a takeoff on one of the Persona 2 characters' signature phrases.

Let's Positive Linking: Persona 2 YouTube Edition!
- Durara parody video.
- Trinity Soul parody video. (Why does Baofu have a sunflower for a head?)
- Smooch parody video. SO CUTE.
- Higurashi parody video. Like chocolate and peanut butter.
- Danjo parody video.
- Peke Rush parody video.

Even though I am unfamiliar with most of the source materials to these (aside from Higurashi), I greatly enjoyed them.

Some other awesome videos that are non-Persona related:
- Full Metal Alchemist meets Final Fantasy VI.
- Ouran meets Final Fantasy VI...
- ...and Final Fantasy VII.
- "Sometimes, I'm a SOLDIER. Sometimes, I'm a mental patient. But my true identity is...CLOUD FLASH!"

(BTW, I have now imported all of my LJ posts over here, for the record.)

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW

Seriously, I have waited for a remake of this game (which presumably will get a US translation this time around) for a decade, no lie. It is my favorite videogame of all time. I've often said that I wanted a remake/rerelease of this game and Tactics Ogre, and now they're both coming up.

Now here's hoping for a similar release of Eternal Punishment!

Edit: Also, have one of the most hilarious summing-ups of grad school I've ever seen.

Now that comps is over and I've got a little breathing room, I finally made it back to Persona 4 for the first time in months; I'm reminded of how much I love this game, and I just maxed out Kanji's S.Link, and ARGHHHHHH SO ADORABLE

Sorry for the non-postage over the past couple of days...I had to go in for a colonoscopy today (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] iowayehudit for being my designated driver!), which meant I couldn't eat anything for almost 48 hours and also had to take 1 1/4 gallons of laxatives (no joke, they want your colon clean enough to eat out of), so I was hungry and not in the mood for doing much but playing lots of Persona 4 and listening to my stomach grumble.

Needless to say, food has never tasted as good as that Airliner pizza did this evening. OM NOM NOM~

In other news, apparently KC Trip ver. 2.0 is now back on schedule, and I'll be leaving on TODAY's bus instead, and getting in late tonight. I do think it might have worked out okay, though, since I feel better for having an actual day of recuperation post-finals week where I didn't have to do anything before heading home into the craziness that is the holiday season.

...though I am now having to face the facts that I have very little of my Christmas shopping done, which is leaving me rather petrified at having to face the malls over the next few days. D:

PERSONA 4 (and artbook, calendar, T-shirt, both soundtracks, and Teddie plush) GETTO

BREAK TIEM

Also, I just read the first story in the new Valdemar anthology during lunch - Mercedes Lackey's own story - and was vaguely horrified to realize about a third of the way through that it was a fanfic with the numbers filed off "homage" to, of all things, Scooby-Doo. There's a wagon with the psychedelic design, four Herald-Trainees investigating a ghost story (the handsome but slow blond guy, the emotional and gullible girl, the practical and intelligent but unfeminine girl, and the scaredy-cat guy), there's a magical dog who shows up and bonds with the Shaggy-type which plays absolutely no part in the story aside from saying "Ruh-roh" and asking for food, and it even ends with the exclamation (which I was waiting for from the moment I figured it out) that "I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling Heralds!"

And what's even worse, it was told from the viewpoint of the meddling kids' mentor, the world-weary wry and exasperated older woman which tends to characterize so many of Lackey's self-insert characters (culminating in "Herald-Librarian Myste" or whatever such shit showed up in the Alberich books). So it's not just a Scooby-Doo AU fanfic, it's a Scooby-Doo AU self-insert fanfic.

...remind me, why do I like Misty Lackey's books so much again? D:

Edit: ...is it a sign of things to come that the second line of dialogue in the game is my (rather DILFy) uncle telling me I'm more handsome than in my photo? I KNOW YOU, ATLUS, AND YOUR WAYS D:

HOLY CRAP PERSONA 2: INNOCENT SIN INTRO VIDEO IN ENGLISH IS OUT

(It's basically 90% of the intro.)

...Oh God, I've played through this game like twice in Japanese, and it's totally my favorite game of all time, so the idea of playing it in English kind of makes me want to cream my pants. (Persona 3 is awesome and all, but nothing compares to Tatsuya, Eikichi, Lisa and co.)

(The translation project homepage is here.)

A Persona 4 video trailer has been released. It's long - like 17 minutes - and the audio is really out of sync, but nevertheless pretty interesting. My musings under the cut.

Two games that I am salivating over: Persona 4 and Valkyrie Profile: The Accursed One (hereafter VP:DS). (The VP stuff was announced a few days back with a screenshot, but the P4 screenshots are completely new.)

Gotta say, even though P4 has had very little of a graphical upgrade from P3, and Soejima's character designs are a little samey compared to P3's, I'm still super-pumped about this game. (But then, I really liked P3, even the much-maligned school-sim system and Mysterious Dungeon-like Tartarus.) I wouldn't mind if Shoji Meguro cut down a little on the BABYBABYBABY though...not that I dislike it, or even really got tired of hearing it, but I just really loved his DDS2 work and wish he'd do something a little closer to that for P4.

So FES next month, then P4 over here sometime early next year probably...sounds like a good Persona-year to me, though I always worry about games released near the end of a dying system, after the new one's already out (remnants of my SNES past). Atlus, please release Persona 4 even though it will be for the PS2! After all, the PS2 has a larger install fanbase than the PS3.

As for Valkyrie Profile, and for the DS no less...YESPLZ. Though I guess I'd better beat Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria first, huh. XD;

Still, tri-Ace has owned my soul since Star Ocean 2, so I'm anxiously awaiting this game. They've actually done quite a few of my favorite-ish games: the Star Ocean games, the Valkyrie Profile, Radiata Stories...so I have a feeling this one will be awesome as well. :D

Warning: completely arbitrary "best of" list ahoy!

...I figure it's late enough in the PS2's lifespan to look back on the games released for it as a whole. And specifically, my chosen genre of game, the RPG. So, bored and fueled by cinnamon bears, I am making a top ten list of the best PS2 RPGs ever.

My list (spoilers ahoy) )

Okay! Making this post was one of my goals for the weekend; others are making a post about cracktastic yaoi manga (the one I've been promising for like 3 months), posting about how the manga Princess Princess changed my life (...kinda), posting some Old English riddles that [livejournal.com profile] enkiae was asking about, playing a shitload of Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana, and watching a shitton of Doctor Who (they tried to deliver my megaset today but I was off teaching, so I get to go to the Post Office and pick it up tomorrow, whee!).

I OBEY MY DALEK OVERLORDS

...so, memeage.

This is one of those "assign a pairing to each number, then answer questions about each number" memes, so here's the list:

SIX PAIRINGS I LIKE:
1. Tatsuya/Jun (Persona 2: Innocent Sin)
2. Doctor/Rose (Doctor Who)
3. Nathan/Peter (Heroes)
4. Buffy/Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
5. Angel/Cordelia (Angel)
6. Katsuya/Maya (Persona 2: Eternal Punishment)

THREE SHIPS I'VE ABANDONED:
7. Veronica/Logan (Veronica Mars)
8. Anya/Giles (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
9. Wesley/Lilah (Angel)

THREE SHIPS I'VE NEVER LIKED:
10. Tru/Harrison (Tru Calling)
11. Scott/Emma (X-Men)
12. Squall/Rinoa (Final Fantasy VIII)

TWO SHIPS THAT HAVE PIQUED MY INTEREST:
13. Akihiko/Junpei (Persona 3)
14. Chase/Victor (Runaways)

(If you're planning on doing this meme, make your own list before you click on the cut and get spoiled for the questions.)

Just did the Yakushima vacation in Persona 3. And...My thoughts )

Current play stats )

Finally, just a few more things I want to say about the game:
- The localization is AWESOME. Seriously, the last time I was so impressed by a localization was Chrono Cross' on-the-fly accent generator. The things that made me notice its quality most were the pitch-perfect use of online slang for "Maya" (you can tell the localizers are strong in the geek-fu) and the great punny vending machine names and appropriate descriptions (which clearly were different in the Japanese version, but work beautifully for us).
- Unlike almost everyone else I know who's played the game, the constant BABYBABYBABY battle music isn't driving me insane yet. Maybe that'll come later, once I'm closer to hour 100?

Have also been replaying Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. OH MY GOD CLIFF DO ME

Edit: New Persona 3 icon, yay! Also new default of smiling Tacchan from Persona 2. (I totally need more P2 icons.)
gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (OH NOES)
...God, I really haven't posted in a while. Anyway, I should be in Kansas City right now, but sadly due to acts of God, I am not.

I'd been looking forward to going to [livejournal.com profile] rathershady and [livejournal.com profile] courters28's wedding for a while now, ever since they got it scheduled...what, in winter or spring? I had my bus ticket all bought (because again, still no license, argh), and spent Friday getting stuff in order so that I could head out of town.

So I show up at the bus station, all packed and ready to go, and discover that the bus I have to take to Des Moines is 3 hours late. Apparently a rock hit the windshield or something, and so they had to repair it before it could go on along its route. So, this meant that I wouldn't be able to leave until about 9 p.m. This wouldn't otherwise be an issue (it would be a pain making my parents come get me at 3 a.m., but they'd totally have done it), except that I had to transfer in Des Moines to another bus heading to Kansas City - a transfer lasting only 15 minutes.

So basically, there was no way I could take the bus to KC. Slightly panicked, I called my parents to discuss other alternatives - train, driving, etc. - but the only valid one we could come up with was me taking the bus to Des Moines, my stepdad driving the three hours or so up to Des Moines at midnight, then immediately driving three hours back to KC and grabbing like five hours of sleep before driving me down to Springfield, Missouri for Vinnie and Courtney's wedding. (And all this after a full day of work, and he was already running on a sleep deficit.) I felt that would be way too dangerous - he's not the safest of drivers at the best of times, perhaps, and I was pretty sure he'd get in some kind of accident - so my mom and I nixed that alternative. And all the others were out too - Amtrak doesn't run from either Iowa City or Des Moines, only Ottumwa, and wouldn't run on a route that would get me there in time anyway, flight would have been almost as iffy time-wise and flying out would have had to be from Cedar Rapids, which is not that far away but expensive as hell to fly out of (especially on last-minute notice).

So I ended up not being able to go to the wedding, which made me feel sad and sucky because a) Vinnie and Courtney are two of my best friends, and b) if I hadn't been so sucktastic and had gotten my license a couple of weeks ago, this wouldn't even have been an issue. (Also, c) I don't get to see all the other awesome WC folks I'd see there.) Still, congrats to the newlyweds!

And fortunately, unlike most weddings I do have another chance - Vin and Court are having a wedding reception in Colorado in a couple of weeks (since she's from Springfield, more of her family came to that one, and the Colorado one is mostly for his family), and when they first invited me I was invited to both, so I'm gonna see if I can't make that one and at least be at ONE of their weddings.

In other "woes of Yosi" news, my Internet has been down since Thursday evening...when I called Friday, they said they were going to try to fix it, but apparently didn't manage it by the end of the workday. No progress is apparently being made over the weekend (at least my Internet light hasn't come back on), so I imagine it'll be Monday before I have Internet again. Blargh.

In other, less sucky news, I'm now fully into the swing of the semester. I'm taking a Milton class, a seminar on early German literature (so, some European context for all the medieval English work I've read), and a calligraphy class. All of them seem quite interesting and fun. Teaching has been going pretty well, too, after the first week. I'm teaching the public speaking half of Rhetoric, and have had to be working pretty strenuously on my public speaking skills (normally my 1337 writing skillz would counterbalance my speech weaknesses, but that's not an option in this class, so in order to have any authority I'm having to work at it as hard as any of my students - harder than some, I think, which is not doing wonders for my self-confidence but is doing wonders for my motivation). The first week was a bit iffy, but the second week's gone better, and I'm pretty happy with it, aside from one student who's slightly loud and argumentative - while I like and appreciate that he's willing to talk, I wish he wouldn't try to pick fights with everyone in the class over minor semantic issues. (And I can't really talk to him about it, since it is sort of what the class is about, and after the first day he hasn't really been interrupting people or anything, but still, he could be a TEENY bit more diplomatic about it.)

Also, Persona 3 is FULL OF AWESOME AND LULZ, although I'm about ready to throw my controller at the screen at the moment. Persona 3 ramblings )

Also, I seem to have acquired an HDTV, eheheheh. But having done so, my reaction now is OMG SO PRETTY, CAN NEVAR GO BACK. Seriously, the PS3 hooked up to an HDTV using HDMI cables is one of the most beautiful things you will ever see. The Wii is really pretty too, though lower-resolution (I think the best it gets is 480p?), and even PS2 games look abso-frickin'-lutely gorgeous, and I can see so much detail that I never could before...all the text in the Persona 3 FMV intro, for instance. And while playing Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou this morning, I noticed that on the door of the Narumi Detective Agency it says, in tiny print, "cutting the Gordian knot," which I never even NOTICED on my old standard-def TV.

More regular posts once Internet is back! I have a book-rec post pretty much written up at home, and there are a few other things I want to post about - I really want to get back into the swing of regular blogging, since I got so out of it during the summer with all the out-of-town-beingness, so expect more once Qwest stops actively sucking ass.

Edit: This weekend is also [livejournal.com profile] aurianrose's wedding, so congrats to her as well!

Scans of Persona 3 from the new Famitsu. It will be released in Japan on 13 July, which means (hopefully) we'll get it by the end of the year. ROCK.

Things to note:
- Kazuma Kaneko is NOT the character designer this time around, Shigeki Soejima is. (He did the character design for Stella Deus. He also did the bust-ups - character portraits - in Persona 2, as well as I think the character design for the minor characters, like shopkeepers and such.)
- The nameless main character's Persona is Orpheus.
- The heroine is named Yukari Takeba, and her Persona is Io. She's voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi. (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bobthetrout for the correct romanization of the last names!)
- The scruffy guy with the hat is Junpei Iori (thank you furigana!), and his Persona is Hermes (they're reusing main character personae now? or does he have some affiliation with Jun? for the record, the kanji for "jun" are completely different in their names). Also, he's voiced by Kousuke Toriumi (a.k.a. Eikichi from P2), hee hee. >D
- Also, Shadows are back.
- Of course so is the Velvet Room and Igor (Belladonna and the rest of the gang seem to be MIA in the screenshots though).

AWESOMEOSITY!

Edit: Also, apparently Famitsu gave FFXII a 40/40 score. Given all the bad press it's gotten, this makes me curious. Hm.

Edit 2: Apparently the full trailer is up. And it does indeed look like it will rock. :D

Edit 3: An IGN article on Persona 3. (I know, I know, it's IGN, but it's still worth a look!)
gogmagog: The Fourth Doctor from Doctor Who (Hungry genius)
Played a little more DDS2 today. Dude, the Berserker form...SO COOL. O_O

Also, I liked the fact that they gave you the option to see the Varin flashback in Roland's HQ. Anyone who didn't play the first game and started with the second is already thoroughly confused by that point, and I imagine it wouldn't particularly help them (XD), but for someone who's played the first game and just wouldn't mind a refresher, it came in real handy. :D

...For some reason I've just been really antsy and restless today. I've got stuff for this week I should be working on, and I find myself more inclined to pace my apartment a zillion times than actually do it. Furuba is pretty calming; maybe watching some of that will calm me down enough to do my reading and work on my assignments. (If nothing else, maybe Tohru's work ethic will guilt me into it. XD)
